I didn't because I chose to "self-insure". That being said I picked up a screw during the first three months and the dealer refused to honor the factory Dunlop warranty, YES there is a factory warranty on the tires.
I took it to a local tire store and they reluctanlty patched it for free. I wrote letters to the dealership the tire store and Dunlop, then miraculously the service department became very interested in taking care of me. They replaced my tire for free as an act of good faith but that was only after I spent hours dealing with the issue.
Think a lot a bout where you live, the driving conditions and your ability to absorb the cost of tire replacement. Don't forget to ask the about the tire warranty on the literature they give you at the time of pickup. It is written in a guide published by BMW not the tire manufacturer.
I think the MAJOR issue here is the rim replacement (from curbing and such) but not certain it covers "curb rash" as that is more a owner mistake rather than a warranty defect so the coverage is really for bent rims and (of course) the tires as well. You can get Tire Rack or any other to cover the tires for about $200 so he would be paying $800 to cover bent rims.
You can bend a rim (or two) if you hit a HUGE pothole or a median so you may want to consider it since the rims are about $500 each so you would basically do slightly better than "break even" if you DID happen to hit something. The majority of us don't buy it but rather "self insure"which in this case means that should we bend a rim, we may have to shop for a replacement sometime in the future.
Thanks I have about 15 minutes to make the decision. If I get one timeout of it I loose, however when you start talking about Rim's they are about $500 each.
I think they quoted me $1,600 at the time of purchase.
