Auto Trans Interchange?

I have a 2000 328CI that the trans is giving me 5th gear errors. I know that I need a new trans. What other cars do the trans interchange with? I found a trans from a 99 323I, would this trans work in my car? What other years and models used the same trans? Thanks

For about the same price as a rebuilt auto, you can convert it to manual trans, and be light years ahead of the game....

I'm with Bob on this one. I did a manual swap in my car for $1,600 total. And that included a Stage 2 clutch/flywheel kit from gripfroce.

Is there a detailed post on making the swap I can reference? I'm new to BMW's so I'm not familiar with these cars yet.

Get a 330 trans an driveshaft. That's what I did. Basically everything bolts up. You'll need manual trans mounts and manual trans driveshaft/drive shaft flex disc.

You'll also need to wire the reverse lighs in again ( extremely easy ) so easy I haven't even done mine still cuz I figure I'll do it one day cuz it's so easy but I get lazy . And you'll need to re-code your ECU for a manual. TECHNICALLY you don't need to re-code and the car will drive. But you won't have traction control and check engine light will be on.

The job is rather simple. Just coding can be a bitch. You'll need some one with a autologic computer to code the car or a BMW GT-1 computer.
You'll need SA codes and to re-program your DSC module etc. Which isn't hard to do as long as you provide your VIN # and original SA code I can get you the new SA code and DSC module code. After all that. You reset the adaptations on the ECU. Drive the car for about 15 miles and it's good to go. Your auto even already has a hole for the 3rd pedal and everything.

The trans i found for sale is out of a 2001 325i, will that work? What about the console? Will the auto console work with the swap?
