New 650 owner and first post!

Just got my 2006 650i 10/12. I'm glad I finally got this sweet ride. I traded in my 2008 528i to get it but it was well worth it. My next car will be a Ferrari.

I took it to a car wash just before Thanksgiving and they broke the right edge of my 3rd break light when drying it. I didn't notice it until after Thanksgiving and of course the manager said I should've brought it back the same day so I gotta replace it because it's annoying as hell; saw a break light on eBay for $157 and I know a shop that might put it on for $100. The dealer said it would cost $475 to replace including part and labor.

There's a technical service bulletin, or whatever BMW calls it about that. Manufacturing defect caused by overtightening the light when first built. I have the same problem. Part can be found for around $127 on various sites that sekk OEM parts. If you look hard, you may find one on used part sites for a lot less.

I went to the dealer to see if BMW would repair as a courtesy since they admitted there was a problem. Not gonna happen. I'm going to order part from dealer using BMWCCA discount, then use service coupon and have them install it.

Any idea where to look for the Service Bulletin?

I thought I might check mine and relieve any possible overtightening before it breaks.

$127? I searched online several times but it was hard to find many and $157 was the cheapest I could find on ebay. Can you tell me where I can get the light for $127?

When they were drying it at the carwash the towel snagged the right edge and it broke. The piece is still there but it won't go back in place otherwise I might've been able to glue it but on the other hand I'd rather have it done right. Just frustrated as hell about it because my car was basically flawless before that crap.

The light is $121.44 at Tischer - getbmwparts.com - which is an official dealer. Part# is 63256911909

I just found it for $111 on a site called partsvp.com, but I don't know anything about them.

Is there a specific website to look up BMW TSBs or is it just a matter of Googling the number and hoping?

I don't remember where I found it, but I'm sure it started with a Google!

Wow this is a good price. Are the parts used or new? I couldn't tell on their site. I tried to buy it using PayPal and an error came up, maybe I'll have to call them. Thanks for the hookup!

You can replace it yourself. I had an intermittent connection. I removed it in about 10 min and reinstallation is about the same. Just remove the top trunk lid cover. You'll have instant access. It's really easy.

Cool thanks! I was wondering if I would be able to do it myself or not. I've removed back lights on a car I had in the past and it was just a matter of removing the covering from the trunk so I guess this should be the same process. I really truly appreciate all the advice and help. So glad I found this site an excited that I have a huge source of help. Thanks guys!

I loved this car before I even had one lol. The color is nice because you don't see any like that and I like it that way.

Welcome and congrats on the new ride. I love that color and was looking for one originally but, that color is rare also the burgundy color too. The 6 is a great ride and I am sure you are going to love it. You may find yourself taking the long route to the grocery store

Welcome to the board and also welcome to face your first problem!!! I feel like having a 6 like chasing a young princess, have to take a good care and treat her softly.

I got a dead battery at a carwash, followed up, they jumped my car, go through the tunnel (dont know what the heck had happened) the car misfired and i got battery replaced by SouthBay BMW.
