D'oh, a deer...a female deer...

So yeah,
heading home last night in rush hour traffic in bumper to bumper traffic on a busy street and then BLAM! it was like there was a rip in the space/time continuum and a doe teleported 2 ft in front of me...wtf.
Anyway,
deciding what to do, obviously going to replace the header and the grill thinking on going black with the kidney grills and carbon fiber for the hood. is that too ricey??
looking for ideas and pulling the trigger this weekend. Also need a solid goto for the parts if you have any GOOD recomendations. If youve dealt with em and were happy, Ill go to em too.

Thanks

Ouch.

Black grilles good, carbon fiber hood bad.

Well yes, but he didn't indicate that.

A CF hood that was painted to match would be superb. A CF hood that was just cleared over would be Hondarific.

Yeah, don't leave the hood unpainted. It'll look riced out, and won't be good for the carbon to leave it exposed to sun, either, unless it's a legit piece with seriously good clear coat. Anyway, it looks easily repairable, and should only take you a few hours once you have the parts in hand. As far as acquiring those parts, I'd recommend searching craigslist and your local BMWCCA forum. It'll be way cheaper to source locally, and trust me, you do not want to deal with shipping a hood.

You would need to do extensive UV protection and clear coat to keep it from looking like ass in a couple years. The weave starts to yellow and looks awful.

Yeah, most of the CF panels available on the market (for racers) have some basic UV clear coat, but it isn't that good. Doesn't really matter for that kind of stuff, since it's just going to be cracked up in a season anyway, but it would not be suitable at all for long-term use on a street car. The real legit stuff, such as what's used on high end cars (ZR1, M3, etc.) costs something like one gazillion dollars per quart.

That deer must have really rammed you if you were really in bumper to bumper traffic.

How fast were you really going?

Glad you weren't hurt. In VA, a deer took out my headlight plastic parts and crunched up my turn signal. Luckily no metal parts damaged, and only made me angry. Deer scrambled away apparently unhurt.

Bastards!

Clearly they need to move the deer crossing signs so they stop crossing in such a dangerous place.

(anyone else seen that video? )

Think about it, that woman is actually allowed to procreate. She's allowed to spread her clueless DNA to more organisms, making the while of the human gene pool incrementally stupider.

Terrifying thought, really.

Check bmwpartssource.com as well. They heavily discount parts. $1600+ on my wife's M roadster over the BMW repair center for hood, grilles, light assemblies from a tractor trailer backing up and onto the car in traffic. I don't know if they are a sponsor and if I can post this but they are the BMW dealer in Lancaster, PA
