Check your car for shipping blocks!

I was wondering why my car was riding stiff so I was going around checking the tire pressure and once I got to the back tires I noticed the shipping blocks where still on the car!

The rear blocks are easy to spot and visible just by bending down. They are a white plastic that prevents the shocks from traveling.

I am still trying to figure out what the front shipping blocks look like and if they are visible or if they are under the rubber shock protector.

What a nice way of your dealer to let you know that they don't give a Sh_t! I would be looking for a new dealer ASAP.

Take photos before removing the blocks as you'll need them as proof with your dealer should some issues arise.

I took the blocks off myself, did not bring it to the dealer.

There was 2 on each rear wheel and 3 on each front wheel.

For anyone that wants to know, they was very easy to take off. Did not even have to remove the wheel. Just jack the car up a little on each side of the wheel your doing and stick a big flat head between the block and twist and it will separate.

Car rides so much better...

Since you took them off yourself, did you bother to contact the dealer and inform them of their error? That's a pretty large error in my book.

you posted this at f30 post also right... i'm hoping this isnt common haha.

its pretty sad, they forgot though, i mean thats all they have to do for the pre delivery inspection. though i've had this happen before to me as well. guess you can't really count on dealers hiring the best people these days, i mean doing PDI probably isnt the highest prestige job at bmw

Uh, no...not even close. The car must be connected to the computer to be taken out of transport mode, mats installed, tire pressure set, various bits of cardboard and and plastic removed, sunroof and power windows one-touch initialized. SOS test call, radio presets, do I need to go on? Do you ever make a mistake at work?

Radio presets?

Since when does the dealer set the radio stations during new car prep?

It is customary to put in a few local stations on AM and FM so that the new owner has something to drive off and listen to.

During a re-code, the technicians have to be careful because if they hit the wrong button or dropdown menu they can erase all user settings and screw over the owner.

It happened to me, too. Bought a Z4 M one year ago and recently noticed that the rubber bellows around the front shocks' stems were torn. Brought the car to the local BMW dealership for having them replaced them. On taking the car back the mechanic told me the reason for the tear were the shipping blocks that the dealer who sold the car from new had forgotten to remove. There's what I got:

The white fellow is the shipping block.

It is amazing that the previous owner has driven the car for years without noticing any problem. As a result of the presence of the shipping blocks, now I need to have the whole strut mounts. Parts are not that expensive but the replacement is a labor-consuming procedure. And labor cost here in Switzerland is insanely expensive. Will contact a lawyer to see if I can get reimbursed by the dealership who did the PDI of the car.
