I need some help please
Very recently I purchased a 2010 550i M-Sport. And here in Michigan. It can get ugly some winters and this is why I need you help.
I can't be driving with the 19's that the car came with. So someone locally is selling a set of 4 tires with wheels that have previously been on a 550. Below are the make and model of the tires. (The wheels are not original bmw) please let me know if these are good and of the price of $700 is good for what he is asking. I say the tires have a good 85-90% left on them: 235/45 r17 2 of which are the Dunlop graspic And 2 of which are the Dunlop Sport m2 I think they have 2 different kinda because one was discontinued. But they are the same thing. Please Help!

As far as the tires themselves, they would not rub.
That's not all you have to worry about however. The hub bore should be analyzed, the bolt pattern should be checked. But if they came off an E60 550i they should fit. $700 for four tires/rims with 90% tread is good right off the web page. All that's left is to check the condition of them, if they are good with no punctures (they hold air) can be balanced, and no curb rashes on the rims its a deal. As far as the brand type, not too sure how they perform in the winter.

Don't know about that model of tire, but I've ran Dunlop Winter Sport 3D on my '07 550i with 17" wheels and currently running the same tire on my '10 with 18" wheels and I've been impressed with them. IMO I would trust the Dunlop brand on an unknown model based on my experience with them so far. I would make sure the wheels, being aftermarket, don't weight much more than the OEM.

I just sold my 550 winters and I would not go 17's for your winters. I recommend 245/18 square setup. Check eBay and Craig's list. There a a bunch of e60's which owners are movin out of the e60's and have winters. Took me 1 week to sell my style 128 OEM w/ TPMS 08+
One more thing. Blizacks, dunlops and Michelin all make good winters for this car. I have 3d's on the m3 and they seem pretty nice. no snow but cold and wet conditions the tire performed well. I drove a 650 w/ M Alpine PA2's a bunch of times and was not impressed. My 550 had M Alpine PA3's were really nice and were better than the PA2's. I read reviews on the forums about the alpine PA4's and the review was very good. In Chicago we get snow but have much more cold/wet than snow. I had no problem in the snow. I easily perform better than AWD suv's with their all seasons. I wanted the 245 for the 90% conditions and be more cautious during the 10% than deal with a soft and skinny 225 like the 17's. You may want to try and find a OEM set for you winters. That way you will be assured that if you mess up a rim, you will be assured that you can get a matching replacement since BMW caries OEM style rims for 10 years after the model is discontinued. Other brands you may not be so lucky

Completely agree on the 18". Here is what they would look like on a 550i M-Sport.

Replica no. A close copy, definitely yes. They were the closest I could find to 172M; did not want to deviate too far from the original look for winter, and was not a fan of what BMW offered for a winter wheel set up at a $1k premium.

What style are those? They look just like my 19" style 220m on my m3 for summers
