Normal operating temperature

I'm getting conflicting answers as to what the normal operating temperature should be on my 2006 e90 325i. Just had the water pump and thermostat replaced. The range seems to stay between 195-205. I live in Delaware so outside temperature right now ranges from mid 30's to 50's right now.

I was told this is normal temperature, I was told by another mechanic it should be down in the 185 range.

180-185°F was for many years the desired norm. Not necessarily now - 240°F typical, N54.

Your gauge may not be accurate!

Show up @ U o'D now and then.....where're best eats, Newark/Wilmington lately?

Higher operating temps result in more complete fuel combustion, so they're the norm these days.

That is low. 220 - 240 would be more correct when fully warmed up.

The engine temperature on N52's is controlled entirely by the DME and is varied. Yours seems just fine to me.

Thanks for the posts, I was using a computer hooked up to the OBD, not using the cars temp guage, honestly don't even know how to pull that up...
