Weird Window Problems 325is 94
First off this is my first post, great site and community.
Having said that, it is not a motor problem for both windows.. Im 100 percent sure of this. Its seem to be a weird electrical problem. The driver window only seem to work when the car thinks its open! I say this because the only time the windows work is when the lights that turn on automatically when you open the car door stays on. I Make sure all the doors and trunk are closed but the light never turns off, and when this happens the driver side window works fine(passenger side doesnt even give the clicking sound when you press the window buttons but thats another days work). But when the lights turn off, like they are supposed to, maybe couple hours later, windows no longer work. Me and my uncle, who is a pretty good mechanic are scratching our heads on this and would like some insight, thanks. I also should add that my power locks arnt working so this may be the culprit Last edited by alecpierre; 05-06-2012 at 06:47 PM. |

Replaced the relay..(?)
Replaced with new? Replaced with used? Did you check all of the relays? They are under the steering wheel, behind the glovebox, under the hood, and under the dead pedal. Did you check the fuses? Are the the correct fuses? Is the wiring creased out in the door jamb? Has the wiring been tampered with? Has this car been submarined? or subject to water damage? (flood)

I have the same year car and I have the same issue but I went under and fixed the comfort relay....the sunroof works now but the others do not so I then replaced it entirely and nothing changed so now Im scratching my head are thier any other relays or fuses that I don't know about or what I checkd if the motors are good...the only other thing I can think about is the driver window switch is broken but I doubt that one switch is going to be shorting my whole window system out...oh besides the sunroof lol

You need to re-sync your windows.. Usually happens when the battery is disconnected, or window motors disconnected..

Tried this and still nothing I'm wondering if it's grounding out somewhere but this is starting to get annoying.....but I'v heard that theirs other comfort relays behind the glove box is this true? If so does anyone have a wiring diagram so that I can try and track the source of this

Have you tried RE-SYNC-ing the windows? Disconnecting the Battery for 30 minutes to reset everything?

I do not know
I bought the car for $900, it was running on 4 cylinders, no windows at all worked, oil leak, no ceiling upholstery, and left brake light was out. I'v replaced all 6 spark plugs and wires, 2 coils, I resoldered the blown point on the comfort relay that is under the driver side but this only solved the sunroof problem, so i replaced it and nothing new happeded except i spent more money, oil pan gasket, ceiling, and new bulb and bulb holder because when the bulb blew it melted the holder. Wher are the locations of them other than behind the glove box, how do I resync my windows and I have not tryed disconnecting the battery for any longer than 4 minutes while replacing the coils. Also I do not believe thier was any flooding to it I live in Wisconsin so I'm sure the winters werent so nice to her but I doubt thier has ever been any flood damage to it Last edited by E36blownpast; 12-11-2012 at 08:06 PM. You dont know..?
You havent done any other troubleshooting? This is where you would offer up information that is pertinent, like: "when i push on the window switch I hear a click in the door/dash/bonnet" Quote:
keep working the way you're going.. You should pick up a service manual... it will save you lots of time, and frustration. Quote:
You really need to READ the information that is presented to you. For the third time... They are under the steering wheel, behind the glovebox, under the hood, and under the dead pedal. A quick SEARCH for "window sync" turns up many results.. Roll the windows all the way down.. then hold the button down all the way for 20 seconds. (dont go breaking switches pushing hard on them) Then you roll the window all the way up and hold the button down for 20 seconds. Try disconnecting the Battery for 30 minutes.

Disconnected the battery for not only 30 minutes....but 45, when I click any button it makes NO noise anywhere except for the tick of the button it's self, but I still went ahead to try the re sync....held it down and nothing happened but continued to hold for 20 seconds let go and did the same for up, still nothing, so then re disconnected the battery for yet another 30 min. Tomaro I will be going through the dashboard looking for this stupid relay but I have a feeling that's all it need...and a good greasing

First things first..
- Check all FUSES - pull out, inspect, clean connection and replace as necesssary DOUBLE CHECK PROPER AMPERAGE FUSE IN PROPER LOCATION - Check all RELAYS - pull out, inspect, clean connection and replace as necesssary... ALL of them, including the ones INSIDE the car hidden in the dash. (you can test them with a 9volt battery to see if they *click*) - Clean all electrical connections - CLEAN, loob it up, and re-connect. If still no luck.. remove door panels disconnect BOTH plugs on the motor in the doors turn on car.. push window switches turn off car.. clean/lube/reconnect plugs to window motors last, but not least.. double check the actual switches themselves. pics of behind glovebox: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=606368
