I am too scared to use this feature anywhere outside of a long drive through window line... I know that someone will try to drive into my trunk if I dare use it on the road.
There should be a way to program the Auto P function to light up the brake lights when that "Auto P" light illuminates on the dash! Would that be possible? |

Ever driven a stick? The brake lights aren't lit when you're holding the car with the clutch. How is auto-p any different?

Update..
Well called my dealer today, they ran the VIN and said that my car is not on the list of this recall ,but BMW do sent the letters out to every one who own an 7's.... So you guys may need to call them first before you head to the dealer so you don't waste your time.

And that's how it should read. If people are too stupid to put the car in park before getting out, you deserve to be run over by your own car.

![]() I don't recommend holding you car in place with the clutch all of the time either. Same reason as above plus the additional wear and tear on your clutch and if you are rear ended, your foot naturally lifts off the clutch... Thus propelling your car forward into the car infront of you (or busy intersection) causing an additional accident that the DMV and insurance company will consider your fault. ![]() Here in SoCal everyone is barely paying attention to the car in front of them, they are too busy texting or reading their email on their phones. Being stopped without a brake light illuminated is just asking for trouble. I figure that it would make sense to have the brake lights light-up when the brakes are actually being used. BMW was nice enough to give us a green light on the dash to tell us that the brakes are on... How about a red brake light for the drivers behind us? |

TXSTYLE--I got a similar letter only to find our that despite what it read my vin number did not apply. It was kind of like a ploy to get you into the dealership and then to sell you something else. Anyway, unless you have another reason to make the trip, I'd call ahead. Ask them to verify that your vin number is affected.

I did a lot of reading before settling on a 750 Li. My 745 Li had turned into a nightmare because the dealer told me that the secondary air warning light really meant a $15,000 repair. All I read about the 750 Li said that the problems of the 745 Li had been corrected and the 750 was really a different and improved car, especially the engine.
Yesterday, as I was discussing this at the dealer's, the service advisor said that the engines in the 745 and the 750 were the same and the fate of my 750 would be the same as the 745. I was stunned. Probably would not have bought the car as load of advice warned me against. What's the deal? Are the 745 and 750 engines just evil twins?

Today I received the notice from BMW that the software update for the rollaway problem (12v-502) is now available at the dealers.

Well... A month went by with no incident of the door not latching then one morning it didn't latch. Then it happened again a week later. Has this happened to anyone else that had the software reprogramming for the soft close automatic doors (Recall campaign No. 12V-504)?
I did take my car to the dealer two days ago to address the second recall notice for the rollaway issue and also had them take a second look into this issue. They didn't reproduce the failure and said that if it occurs again in the future that they may recommend replacing the door lock actuator.

Is it me or did the software upgrade for the rollaway recall do something to the volume control level for the audio system? I recall changing the volume level from the steering wheel or the volume button was more gradual before this upgrade. But after the upgrade, the volume level jumps considerably up and down. Can anyone else corroborate this?

Update: When I started my car this morning, the volume from the stereo was barely audible. I intentionally didn't change the volume and let the car idle for a minute to see if the volume would change during that time. It didn't so I set off for work and it wasn't until I accelerated somewhere between 35 and 40 mph that the volume went from barely audible to very loud. I understand it that the volume will or can adjust depending on the speed of the car but this isn't normal.
To me, the fact that this problem is related to the speed of the vehicle and that the recall involved the transmission makes me think this isn't at all a coincidence. Does anyone else agree or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Today I started the car and set the speed volume setting to the lowest setting. When I drove off, the volume didn't change when accelerating over 40 mph and more importantly, the volume controls on the steering wheel and stereo worked correctly. But as soon as I increased the speed volume setting, the volume jumped dramatically and the behavior I described earlier with the volume controls returned. Even lowering the speed volume setting didn't make any difference.
