Anyone on the Baltic Ace? I hope not.
Looks like the Baltic Ace (a car cargo ship) got hit and sunk in the North Sea. I have no clue if this ship pertains to BMW at all, but just in case here is the article.

As a data point, my X1 departed Bremerhaven on the Glorious Leader on 11/30/2012, so I'd assume other cars in this same timeframe bound for the west coast would be onboard that vessel too.
The Baltic Ace was headed the other direction - from Belgium toward Finland, bypassing Germany - so no BMWs should have been affected this time around. Nevertheless, a tragic loss - especially given that there were fatalities among the crew...

A different car cargo ship caught on fire today, it was headed towards the Caribbean. Don't know the name of it though.

No story is as good as this one though, for those who are interested in Ro/Ro incidents. The only reason I know about this is that my Audi was delivered on the Cougar Ace and you get an interesting picture when you wiki that ship:
