My interior change with carbon fiber
Well Im finished a they are replacing the dash tomorrow (due to top layer bubbling up) Im very happy with the change as the wood was not cutting it for me. My next project is the side mirrors.
Does anyone on here know how to take the caps off the mirrors? I guess I can ask them tomorrow when I take it in to redo the dash.... I have inclosed pics I started without the red stripe but I thought it looked too black with no contrast. Last edited by Beamerboi; 10-02-2012 at 10:40 AM. |

Looks good. Might even look nicer with the black leather w/Red stitching and piping.
What product are you using to wrap the dash? |

To remove the trim is not hard a all. You just need to be careful and take your time. Everything snaps out it will not seem that way till you give a good pull (carefully) then you'll see how easy it is to remove. I didn't have to remove the gear shift nob as the boot just snaps out then so dose the trim. The I drive nob needs to snap out of the trim as well after you snap the trim itself out. You will see screws underneath the I drive box that needs to be unscrewed too. The dash board you will need to disconnect the hazard button and the vent. I have inclosed a pic of tools you'll need.
The carbon wrap material is called: Order Details: Code Item Qty Price Grand Total DINOC1170 Black Gloss 3M DI-NOC Carbon Fiber DINOC Flex Wrap CA-1170 [Select Size:4ft x 4ft (48in x 48in) (16 Sq/ft)] 1 $94.99 $94.99 Subtotal: $94.99 Tax: $0.00 Shipping Cost: $9.42 Grand Total: $104.41 http://www.metrorestyling.com (You can get it off amazon too same company) The red thin line was a 3M pen strip tape that I slowly applied to the bottom of the trim. You will also need a hair dryer to help heat the wrap on the edges and corners. I hope this helps. My baby is in the shop now having her boobs (dash ) done LOL Does anyone know how to take the side mirror caps off? Do the snap off? |

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. I might have to try doing something similar. We just got the aluminum but I am starting to regret that decision. I wasn't willing to pay just for wood though.

How is removal on this? Would it remove easily? Or is the adhesive so aggressive that you would have to spend a really long time with adhesive remover to remove left behind adhesive if you peeled it?

Good to hear. In your opinion, does it look like real carbon fiber or is it obvious imitation?

Its very close to the real thing. Its 3-d and has a lot of texture. It works for what its worth as better than wood with my combination. I had lots and I mean lots of complements from all the service guys at BMW when I took it in to have the dash board replaced. The good thing is if you dont like it you can always take it off... : )

My tint on my tail lights
Ok I finished my tint on my tail lights. Dam that was hard to do!
Getting all the bubbles out was a bitch. I think it works to have toned down the red to go more with all the black wheels and trim. |

Black and white carbon fibre BMW emblems to replace the blue and white may be a good match.

are you considering any changes to the headlights? i think it would be awesome if the silver strip could be replaced with LEDs, like Audi's have. Also the brake calipers are painted that same obnoxious silver - thinking about getting them painted.

Considering that brake lights are a huge safety item, I do not see the benefit of reducing their overall brightness by tinting the lens. In some places, it's also illegal. The manufacturer goes to great lengths to ensure the rear gets noticed. Dimming the lights is just asking for it IMHO, regardless of what it looks like. HOpe you don't run into hassles with the local officials or during an inspection.

I like it all except the tinted brake lights. IMHO that is over done and screams teenager.
Other than that it looks great! |

lol
well Merry christmas!
![]() FYI It does not LOOK LIKE A TEENAGER ! please Silly how darkening tail light make something look teenager or so call juvenile! The smoke does not decrease the light output but by 10% even if that much. It is of legal standards AND I have had nothing but complements on the tail lights along with the other mods. LOL My engine light had came on during a 12 hr road trip today 12/24/12. Stoped at BMW sevice center in ATLANTA. Drove it into the service center and a flood of people were around the car within 2 min looking at all the mods and the tail lights was one of the top likes from the BMW service guys!!!! I like it and thats is all that matters. HEY Im almost 50 by 1 year look act younger LOL Ill welcome the fact i can pull off the teenager look!!! although its not a teenager look! ![]() ![]() ![]() PS the service light was due to some air leak ???? reset it it went off and so far so good... Good One. I just turned 50 and get told that modifying my sound system was the same premise (I am a radio engineer). Now I even get calls from dealerships and even Crutchfield years ago on advice. Good going

Does anyone know if the dark crosswise aluminum trim can be wrapped? I'm thinking either gloss black or carbon but I'm concerned that 1. the "crosswise" texture will show through the wrap and 2. there will be adhesion problems because of the crosswise texture. Thanks.

Looks great but I have to say - that Crosshatch Dark Aluminum on the M-Sports looks amazing with black interior.

I hope you have good long term results. I used the same product and had some heat related failures due to baubles and blistering... Not real big ones, but very noticeable because they were all within reach.
Looks great, let us know how it survives long term |
