6 Series
The BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations. |

Go from 2009 650i to 2007 M6 Vert
Miss having a six speed manual and a convertible, so I was thinking of switching. Anyone have any comments or experience going from 650i auto to M6 stick?

If you can afford the gas/tires/maintenance it's a no brainer, the M6 is awesome.

I've been thinking about this whole time but I heard the 07' has transmission problem? I found a guy selling his 07 M6 vert in NY for pretty good deal. But maybe it's not necessary. Even the seller told me why am I going from 09 to 07, it's 2 years different. Gas compare to 650i I think it will only has a 500-800 different a year for 15-20k miles/ per year driving? Tires maybe, but will not be a big issue. Maintenance, I did a little research, differential and transmission fluids need to replace more offen, oil change cost higher. No extended warranty. Higher insurance premium. Besides all that I think the feeling hitting WOT on an M6 is amazing.

If money isn't the big factor, find a 09 or 10. The updated electronics will be worth the search and the driving experience will speak for itself.........GL............Phil

I nearly bought a 2010 M6 vert. I didn't because the dealership wanted too much for it. Ordered a 550 instead.
It is a sensational vehicle. The exhaust note is money. The 2010 has a fairly new iDrive system. The SMG transmission is below average vs. the latest stuff but the rest of the vehicle was so much dynamite so it didn't matter. If you get a manual then no problem. -Corey

Friends who own an M6 use twice as much gas as me. I get about 15mpg with mostly enthusiastically driven city driving and my friends are getting about 8mpg in their M6.
The OP is thinking of manual so there should be no problems transmission-wise. I would steer clear of the SMG transmission. I have SMG in my track car but I would not want it in my daily driver. I believe the M6 is reasonably reliable but I would stay clear of high mileage cars. Motor work is very expensive.

a 2010 with 44k miles is running $57k, which is way more than I am willing to spend. The car I am looking at is $38,999 with 50k miles. Also, it is a manual transmission.
The 09's get the better idrive controller, but older dvd nav. I have to decide whether to commit to my 09 or make a move now, as I only have 800 mile sleft on my warranty (and I have to buy extended warranty befor eit expires from dealer). |

Personally I think that car looks pretty good considering the mileage.
The interior might be a bit dirty but the leather is all in very good shape. Normally the shifter, steering wheel, seats and door handles are a lot more beat up than what I saw. A good detailing will clean up the car very nicely. Plus the car looks 100% stock which would be a pretty good indicator the previous owner was not a huge enthusiast. People who drive the crap out of cars normally lower it, change the wheels and do other mods.

Hi ! I think the car has had a hard life, with the top down for considerable periods as the leather looks quite faded/shaded, plus I think it has been wet on the inside, ie in the rain with the top down, it could be a quirk of the pictures but it certainly does not look as though anyone has loved it and probably driven the crap out of it!!!!

One other option is this 650i:

I think you should consider a M3 vert. Look for a late build 09 and never look back
I had one until 8/29/12 when it died and was totalled due to flood damage. Funny though, the insurance company sold it at auction and someone bought my old 08 M3 for $28k |

" If you're looking to trade, then trade up to the 2010 where you would still have some warranty left plus some better options that you might be missing on your current ride."
The cost to go to a 2010 is more than I am prepared to spend in this fiscal environment. |
