335i Wind Noise

What is the speed where your 335i starts whistling by your left ear with the windows up? I'm not used to a car cruising at 85 as quietly as this, but when I get to 90 and above it starts whistling. Just want to know if that is typical as these cars are meant to drive at high speeds in Europe and I know my Mercedes was sound proof at 120.

Please post your E9x model. My E92 has wind noise coming through the driver window at 80 mph; at 120 it is unbearable . Will send my SA a scathing email and report back.

The wind noise gets loud around 135mph on my E91, I do have factory roof rails. It wind sound seems like it is coming from the right rear window, sounds like it is down a little. I didn't notice the sound until I put go flat tires on, the run-flats were so loud at that speed!

Well, my 335i has wind noise at all speeds, but no whistle. I prefer top down motoring.

However, I noticed a screaming noise as the needle passed 130. Turns out, it was my wife hysterically demanding I slow down.

Yep, I know that sound, my wife makes that same sound when we get up to 150mph and we start passing trucks that are only going 50mph!

I have the E92. I noticed that it must have been a crosswind as I retested it on a different direction E-W vs. N-S. I don't get the high velocity wind noise until about 110-120 but going the other way through the canyon, it was noticable on lower speeds on the driver's side. It is probably normal.

Yup. On ED, I was looking forward to hitting the engine speed limiter on the autobahn. Turns out the passenger seat speed limiter went off at 120.

Mine exhibits a mild whistle from the side mirror from roughly 40-60mph. Below that, nothing; above that, either the resonance is obliterated by increased flow or it's just lost in the background. I notice very little wind noise at freeway speeds--tire noise tends to dominate until triple-digit speeds. Above about 120mph (going from memory from ED; sadly I can't do that here...) the wind noise becomes a formidable roar--not enough to preclude conversation in normal tones, but enough to make the base of your brain say, "OK, we're going plenty fast now...."

Whistling by your left ear at high speed does not sound normal. You might want to have the window glass and seals checked/adjusted, to ensure the glass is fully seated in the seal when closed.

The wind noise at and around the drivers side window has been consistently acceptable. I have been impressed quality and durability of the door frame and truck compartment seals. Recently, the seals received an application of gummi pfledge for the first time. Hopefully this will help with prevention of drying / deforming.

Where would one seek repair on the rubber seal network if and when the material fails with age?
