Off Topic Rant: I hate Priuses
WTF, why did they release a whole family of these POS cars to block more lanes on the road.
It must have been block the fastlane with Priuses in the Bay Area, then drive as slow as you can day today. I think I ran into every model and version ever released. Annoyingly none of them drove above 70 mph on the fast lane. Get the F#@K OUT OF THE DAMN FASTLANE! Thank God I was driving my tiny little MR2 today which can pretty much fit in lots of tiny spaces to get around these annoying cars. I miss the days when Toyota actually made sports cars. Not POS Camry SE's. Aaaarrrggghhhh..... Sorry for the rant, now I feel better.

I hate priuses too. And yes Toyota has totally stepped away from cool cars. I always wanted a Supra. My first new car was a Celica and I loved it.

when can you go over 70mph on ANY freeway in the Bay Area? Usually it was around 8mph max for me.

I've been made at Toyota ever since it changed the Celica over to FWD. Its been downhill ever since. The current Toyota/Subaru joint venture is a nice idea, but not quite a home run.

And here I thoguht they were only invented to cut me off when I'm on my motorocycle. It's comforting to know they serve another purpose, too. I feel your pain, I hate them, too.

From my experience, the Prius comes with the self-righteous and messiah-complex options for their owners. All I have to say to them is thanks for saving the world by getting good mileage while driving a goofy $hitbox that makes my car look like a Maserati.

Unfortunately, I would have to disagree that all Toyota drivers are dull. I think that all started in the late 90s when they became the top 3 car manufacturers in the US.Mid-90s and below they still made awesome sports cars like the AE86, MR2 (aw11 & sw20), FX16, Supra, Celica GT-S All-Trac. Then they started pushing all these crappy econobox BS that only my grandmother would drive. I love how my MR2 AW11 doesn't have power steering, ABS, DSC or any yaw & steering control enhancements. I'm all for people using those cars, just stay on the slow lane and get out of the way of people who actually know how to drive in the fast lane. |

You beat me to it. I was going to pull this pic off my Facebook page.
I've always said I'm going to buy a HumVee just so I can park it on top of Prius' at the mall at Christmas when I can't find a spot.

Although there are many types of people that buy it, the Prius seems to attract a lot of people that are trying to make a public proclamation as to how green is their lifestyle. It is similar to a large bumper sticker.
For people that want to be green, but without the public display, I think a Volkswagen Jetta (or Golf, or Passat) Diesel is a more reasonable choice. They get about the same fuel economy as a Pruis, and they can be fun to drive when ordered with a manual transmission. The obvious problem is these cars don't shout "green", since they are virtually indistinguishable from gas-powered VW models. I view a Prius as a non-enthusiasts car. The battery packs are heavy, and the handling is clumsy. It rides on skinny, low rolling-resistance tires. It does not encourage enthusiastic driving. Everyone has a right to drive what they desire (within reason). But they should show courtesy to other drivers, and not be obstructionists in the left lane. Back on topic: I have seen this from the driver's seat of my BMW.

I live in the Bay Area too and actually hate Priuses as well but actually for the opposite reason. My experience with them has usually been being TAILGATED by them in almost every situation you can think of including the fast lane on the highway. There have been times when I'm doing 80 and look to see what's behind me and here's what supposed to be an economy car using what has to be ALL of it's power to ride my bumper. I've got the feeling that many of their owners feel they can do whatever they want including driving it in a way that's not very "green" at all. I agree with the other statements as well...the car seems to be used as a "look how green I am" fashion accessory at least around here. I've got to say I don't generally buy into a certain kind of car owner being total ass hat drivers but my experience with Prius drivers is easily that 95% of the time.

what ever happened to things like the 2JZ and the supra?
unfortunately my mother has a prius which i drove on a 900 mile trip and only managed 35 MPG, such a small engine has to work hard pulling such an awkward car. not to mention throughout its production it uses more oil than most cars in their life, Thanks, but ill stick with the BMW |

I live in the Oakland / Berkeley hiils and you can't swing a cat without hitting one of these dreadful machines. In the late 90's, a bad way to start the day was 4 Corolla's side by side blocking every lane on 580 on the way to work. Now these morons are doing the same thing in their Prius along with their offspring in the little orange-ish colored one (the Prius C I think it is??) Who would buy that nasty thing and think they got a nice car???

My wife traded in our Xi for a Prius while I was at work. Felt like a kick directly to the nuts. Luckily I still have my ZHP. My wife bought it for her long commute, and as a purely no joy a to b commuter it performs quite well.

On my commute to work, I have one pull out in front of me every morning and when I pass them, they honk and flash their lights. Same guy, every time.

I get more Affliction shirt wearing, tweaked out moufbreathers in lifted F250's and Silverado's trying to drive the boats like M3's out here in Sacto. They also like to tailgate and cut in front of "faggity" BMW's too I notice.
