645ci 2005

Hi, a quick question for you guys, whats the approximate cost of replacing a transmission on a 645ci 2005 (automatic)? I have the opportunity to buy one for cheap but the transmission is out. Thanks.

The stupid dealership told me 6,200 but someone on this site told me how to reset my Transmision and it worked.

Most of the time a dealer says the transmission needs to be replaced, they don't know how, or want to fix it. If you had a dealer replace the tranny, I thought I heard 12k!. I would want to see a sample of the fluid before I took the chance of buying it with problems. Have a sample of the fluid tested, then make a good decision. If the current seller changes the fluid & filter before you buy it, the problems might disappear. Then the price would most likely increase dramatically!

Dealers do not actually repair broken transmissions, much easier for them to replace and send back to BMW or whoever to repair. It is much the same with engines, so they cost it accordingly....

You may want to look into replacing the transmission solenoids in the Mechatronics unit. Very seldomly does an entire transmission need replacement. There is a write-up about this on the bimmerforums. The beauty of it is that you will only spend roughly 500 dollars for the replacement solenoids and a little bit of your time rather than the 6500 dollars that the stealership is attempting to scam you out of. I believe it's even you turn the ignition with the engine still off you step on the gas for 60 seconds
