Yes.

My guess is that no one takes any of these magazines very seriously. A positive review just reinforces a buying decision, a negative review just makes one reconsider a buying decision. Ultimately we do what we want to do and turn up the volume on what we want to hear and turn down the volume on what we don't want to hear.

Absurd.

They put the A7 on the list, then say "The Audi A7 is not recommended because Consumer Reports has not completed testing on the car."

They might as well list cars that don't exist yet.

A while back I owned a 2005 4runner, purchased in part because of uber reliability scores in CR.

6 months into the ownership, I wound up on the side of the road dead and had to have the car flatbedded to the dealer. They went over the car for 21 days before they fixed it. I eas 9 days from lemoning the car and actually had the papers drafted.

The thing was OK for a while but then repairs started to creep up -- CAT issues, etc. so I traded it in on a 3 series coupe and haven't looked back.

When I happend to post some pretty negative reliability reviews in the CR owners portion of its web site I found that they "disappeared."

Good guess My 2008 Lexus GS350 was the most unreliable car I have every owned. It was in the shop for more than 6 weeks out of the 8 months I owned it and the problem was still not fixed.

Yeah, the compact thing is a massive head scratcher.

The F30 is probably mid size more than a compact, its the biggest of all the entry level sport luxury sedans on the market.

"Compact" is merely nomenclature for a defined dimensional class of vehicles. I suspect Consumer Reports provides the definition it uses.

Isn't the G37 a little bigger?

The G37 isn't in the same class as the F30. No one drives a G37 for performance or status; it's merely a cheap car.

My post above got me curious and I checked out the latest status of the G37 and actually started a thread about it. Outside of the mediocre gas mileage (even worse for the manual I would be interested in), it looks like a very worthy ride. I give you the status, but not the performance. In terms of acceleration, there is no debate. In terms of handling, it looks like the G37 might actually do slightly better on the twisties, although I don't feel sure enough about it and will consider them quite comparable.

As to being cheap, why do you say that? There is something cheesy about the car, but why cheap?

Don't listen to bolt. He lives in a world where the BMW is a status symbol instead of just another car.

Yeah, that's called the real world.

Not a week goes by that I don't see a BMW in a movie or hear a reference to a BMW on TV as a status symbol. Not sure why this is some shocking alternative point of view.

I read the report and I was impressed. It looked like a Camry with all red dots. I almost started a thread on it. I don't rely on CR but I think the new F30! Is a reliable car based on my car with 5k on it and I don't hear much complaining here about problems. They also liked the fuel milage and handling

This is correct. I have one too. It is a car, available with AWD with all the "stuff" and pretty solid mechanically that one can lease for the price of an Accord. It is fast but handles like a steamship. But my E92 is far superior in every way from the nav to the handling to the air conditioning to the wipers to the defroster to the radio to the tires . . . .

I couldn't give two sh!ts about status though as my NYC driver is an old outback with 45 bumper stickers that leaves a trail of oil and coolant from its leaking head gasket.

Not. Even. Close.

Very nose heavy. Handles like an explorer.

My brother in law just leased a 2012 G37, its definitely smaller than the F30. I thought the handling of the G37 was better than the non-sport F30 and the interior material seems better as well. I cant believe I am saying this about a G37 To top it off, he got on heck of a lease on it, pretty nicely equipped withe navi, it only cost $320 a month, $1000 down.

Then I do NOT see an F30 in my future.

If you expect a f30 to handle like a 3 series of old, you pretty need to add sport suspension or adpative suspension. The G37 might handle better, but I would still take a F30 over a G37 any day of the week.

Huh?

G37 188 inches / F30 182 inches
G37 3628 lbs / F30 3360 lbs
G37 112 Cu Ft EPA / F30 105 cu ft EPA volume
