Hmm, this hasn't been asked before.
I'm certain that any V6 will fit, though many will need to be significantly modified as (I think it's fair to say) that the majority of V6 engines produced are intended to be transversely mounted to accommodate the FWD vehicles they were intended for. Your BMW is RWD. Hope this helps and welcome heartily to the 'Fest. A willingness to undertake this sort of endeavour will stand you in good stead in this community. Ed.

Just swap a m50 or m52 depending on if your car is OBD1 or OBD2. This will be a lot easier then going with a v6.

BMW I-6 swap would be much easier but if you've truly got your heart set on a V-6 there are lots of GM 4.3L V-6s around from RWD vehicles. They're a pretty stout motor to start with and you can get some pretty good HP increases with minor mods.
Swapping in an LS1 V-8 has been more common and there's probably a lot more guidance available on the web.
