X35i or x50i?
Coming from the 4.8L V-8 in my 550i M-Sport I have to think that a six cylinder turbo isn't going to have the rumble I'm used to. I know the x50i is faster and sounds better but is it really worth the extra coin? I'm pretty sure Ill be going M-Sport as that really sets BMW's off even more than they already are. Go!

I wholeheartedly agree with the above sentiment! While the 35i is no slouch, the 50i removes any potential for suffering from Horsepower Defeciency Syndome, a quite painful condition.
![]() If you only test drive the 35i, you should be OK with that, but expect to want the 50i if you end up driving both. I test drove a 35i and a 50i back to back and knew immediately that I had to have the V8. One year and about 11K miles later on my 2012 50i and I've been thrilled with the engine. It drank a couple of quarts of oil this past year, but SO WHAT? It's much less oil thirsty now and has tons of power. I'm sure the M Sport is that much better. I can honestly say that I can't think of a SUV I would want more than what I have. I know I'd have been wanting more if I'd gone for the 35i. I have been very happy with my decision to go for the 50i. Now, if BMW could make the body/interior just a tad more vault-like and do a proper premium sound system, I'd then truly be in seventh heaven.

If you can find a 50i in your price range, do it!

i think also the 550 your coming from has a pretty stiff suspension set up naturally.
The msport one i just got is very BMW'esque as apposed to some of the standard 5.0 non sports x5 i test drove. The suspension was a bit sloppy and loose. There are some CPO 2011 out there and the msport editions in 2011 come standard with Adaptive Drive u will like that Definitely try to test drive one first. Rob

50 all the way, considering what you're coming from. I just left an S4, and couldn't have done the 35 without remorse; I suspect you'd feel the same. Yes, there's a theory that says the 35 is "fast enough for an SUV," but the X5 is so composed for the segment that the bigger engine makes sense (the bigger V8 in the Merc GL, for example, is pointless, unless you're towing). Every time I get to push my new toy, I'm amazed how quick and agile it is for its size (I've got M performance, adaptive drive, and active steer as well).

I think the 50i with M-Sport is going to be 50ish.....found an M-sport white 35i in my price range but dont think I will be happy with a 6.

I just went through this... I currently have a 35d and test drove all of them again. I ended up with the 50. I could not resist the engine and response.
The trade off is the fuel consumption. |

I really wanted the 50i but couldn't stomach 12mpg. I get 21-22 mpg in the diesel with a lot of city driving.

That's slightly better than what I'm getting in the city. BTW, for me, "in the city" means DC and surrounds. Lots of stop and go. I didn't buy this for fuel economy , and would gladly still fuel it if it ran on the blood of baby seals, but I'm pleased with the mpg so far. Can't wait to get it out on the open road (my litmus test is DC to Charlottesville, VA).

I really couldn't tell that much of a difference between my 35i M Performance and a 50i M Sport I had as a loaner in the speed department, it didn't feel that much faster. It didn't have adaptive drive which probably contributed to the front end feeling heavy and it certainly didn't sound better. I'd like to try a 50i M Performance with AD because I bet it sounds and feels much different.

Looks cool Lets see I only have mine for a week 600 miles Space grey or titanium r the easiest color to keep clean and the sexiest But if u like black ok well give U the nod...lol Have fun cleaning night and day I'm sure ur aware of this already. Just so U know the 333 20" I have killer looking but a week into it ill be honest I find them rough around town. Like a bit annoying and I may trade someone on the for there 19" wheels But if someone would have told this I still would have ordered them Ur options look perfect Personally I have another BMW with wood interior so I would order brushed aluminum Gives a sporty look I'm going to have this guy Don do a Carbon fiber wrap for $295 ... He got amazing reviews So most importantly can u tell us the specifics of ur deal I got 12% below invoice on my $77k brand new 2012 last week . Rob

TexasBMW, since you seem to be ordering a very well equipped machine, you should at least consider ordering the somewhat secret "individual" stereo upgrade. This is a step above the pretty mediocre "premium sound" option.
I have the premium sound option and its not stellar. I wish I had had the foresight to special order rather than search area dealers for a close fit. Wish I'd known about the uber-sound system availability too. (option code 752) http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=588868 If you plan to keep your truck for a while, the incremental cost of the upgrade is worth it, in my opinion.
