Front pad and rotor help

Ok. So my girlfriends 07 328i needs new front brakes. I plan on doing the labor that's not a big deal.
I am looking for the best rotor pad combination for a daily driver. She is not an aggressive driver. I would like something that will last longer than oem at a better price point. Also looking for lower dust and no noise. I don't mind the oem parts but they seem rather expensive.

Also it's my understanding that there are 2 different rotor/pad sizes for the 07 year. Her build date was 06/07. So I think she has the smaller front rotors.

Also thanks to all on the forum you have answered a lot of our questions about her car. And saved us countless $$.

If I remember correctly, the '06 325i and '07 328i have 300mm rotors. '08+ 328i have 312mm ... like my '07 323i. See realoem.com

BTW, I can't see how you could ask for something that last longer.... are they original on an '07? My '07 has 71000 miles on original front brakes. Heavy traffic every day!

I love my Akebono pads in the rear (no dust at all). I bought my Akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors for the front 1 year ago but they just won't give up.

you can get a whole kit, OEM pads, low dust pads, rotors, fluid and sensors for 400.. thats for front and rear. i dont know how much less you are looking to hit price wise.

probably needs a brake fluid flush as well, when was the last one done? should be done every 2 years

I went with the ceramic pads and have been happy with them after almost 50K miles. Less dust and they stop well. They don't seem to bite as quick as the OEM pads which gives the brakes a slightly different feel. You have to use a little more pedal especially when braking hard. As for price I think they were only about $80 a set at Advance Auto. Have only replaced the front rotors so far and I don't remember them being priced any more than similarly sized ones for my other cars. Of course you can pay big $$ if you go with the high performance rotors. I am waiting for the ceramic rotors to become affordable. Probably be a while

Take a look at Hawk Performance brakes. They have several options, from oem street to race including ceramic.

When done, no matter which compound you get, make sure you follow the 'bed in' procedure .... it does matter.

Ceramic works well IF they are up to temp. If they're cool, as in a long hiway drive, you have to step HARD until they warm up then modulate your foot pressure or they'll put you into ABS mode. They're good for frequent stop driving. Also, if you don't use them hard every now and then, the rotors will get an uneven brake deposit (blueish coating) that will make the rotors feel as if they're warped. Easy to fix, several hard 60 to 0 stops (just this side of ABS use) will rebed the pads to the rotors.

One thing I've found to be true, it's more important (cheaper) to be able to stop fast then to go fast. Quality costs more up front but is much cheaper in the long run.
