you will regreat that in the first snow storm.
I tried going up a hill with just a small amount of snow on it.NEVER again. DSC is great no reason to defeat it unless you a stuck in a snow drift and want to rock your car.

Just joking around I've been driving with DSC default off for 4 months now because of my euro cluster isn't programed. Summer tires in the snow was a fun experience. If you're a human being with feet instead of lead weights you will be just fine in the snow. I will admit I had the lead foot syndrome but after the snow with no DSC I have feather-like feet. Remember people didn't have DSC before the 90s. The whole point would be that DSC would be off and then if I wanted it push the button and turn it on. |

The real need is snow tires, not fancy feet! I grew up in buffalo before 4WD, everyone put on snow tires if they had to drive during the winter. Same thing with RWD BMWs. I run PS2s in summer, Dunlop M3s when it gets <32 deg. Disabling DSC by default seems silly to me, but people did come up with a easy mod to do this way back when (1999?). dave 03 540i6 Last edited by 540nj; 12-29-2012 at 12:52 PM. Reason: typo |

Does anyone know how to trouble shoot and diagnose the DSC (traction control) system ?
The light is off and the DSC switch when pressed or toggled has no effect. I replaced the switch but no change. Light is same as ABS, and does light up during initial engine start up. |

Can anyone help ? My DSC button has no effect on the traction control system. ABS, speedo, cruise all work normal. I just can not disengage the DSC. I replaced the button from an other e39, but it still didn't help

you should have gone into snow mode - hold DSC until the light blinks. This turns off DSC but keeps ABS on.

That's the issue. The DSC button has no effect on light or DSC system. No matter what I do it's still in DSC mode. As mentioned, I swapped buttons, but no change.
