Strange hose clipped to dipstick, please help identify

Hi guys,

I was doing some work on my 2003 x5 and i noticed this curved plastic hose that was clipped to the side of my dipstick. I found it strange that the end of the curved part was not connected to anything. Any ideas where this thing connects?

Petrol or Diesel engine?

On my 06 4.4i (N62 engine)...there is a curved tube not connected to anything (by design) and it is a breather tube (see pic below). But you haven't identified what engine you have which makes many forum members skip over your question...and the pic is so close up on the hose...that we can't get a good perspective to tell what engine you have either.

If the tube/hose has the 11 digit BMW part nbr on it (xx xx x xxx xxx) you can also look it up in one of the online part databases like www.realoem.com .

Again I have a bmw x5 2003. Its a v6, 3.0L engine, runs on petrol.

Someone must have swapped a V6 into your car. No X5 ever came with a V6.

Your BMW has a straight, inline-6, something BMW is very famous for.
