Hello,
This is my first post, I need help!! I have a 98 528i that will not turn over when i attempt to start it up. 2 days ago i started it up for about 10 sec everything was fine, i turned it off to add a little coolant. Once i went to turn it back on it would no longer start. I checked the oil and then i added a little oil. when i start it up if i push on the gas it will stay running but once i take my foot off the pedal it shuts off HELP PLease!!! |

Keep it running with your foot for a few min and see if it levels out--I think it's flooded---neve crank the car up cold and run a short while and then turn it back off--they will flood this way

cheapest test to check out is your battery... get a voltage meter and test the battery with the car off and test the battery with the car on. ? see the voltage reading. and post back.

Well if you have a code and can't tell us what the code is--we are at a loss to tell you how to make the fix on your car

Hey man i'm back. I drove it up to auto zone. the codes that came back were from the MAF and the o2 sensor. Any ideas?

I just cleaned the MAF and it still wont turn over. The o2 code is pre-cat i haven't replaced it. WOuld that cause it not to start?. i can drive it i just have to keep my foot on the gas at all times.

I am confused. You say it doesn't start, but then you say you can drive it by keeping foot on the gas.... Clarify, please.
If you are saying it doesn't idle - clean IAC valve. |

Turn the car off--then unhook the maf and crank the car--if it stays at idle then you know the maf is bad--sounds though like you damaged the maf when you cleaned it--that is my guess at this point
