Something similar happened to me last spring but the outcome was better.
I had ordered an electric razor (through Amazon). No issues. They filled the order and shipped it. Upon tracking the order, I noticed the razor was now listed $20 less. I called them up and inquired about what to do (ie. refuse delivery, just buy the one currently listed and send the original one back, etc.). She said I could refuse delivery, have it sent back and order another one or she could give me an Amazon credit for the price difference. I took that option. Never really had any issues with Amazon.

The difference here was that the product was received and put under the tree for a week or more - and they basically said tough... not happy that I had to send them back a game to get credit - but oh well...

They're actually pretty damn smart. They've optimized processes and while it may seem silly to you and I it makes a difference to their bottom line when they apply things in a uniform manner as much as possible.
I returned two packages to Amazon today. Asked if I could just combine the two into one package. Nope, they wanted them each shipped separately. I figured it was a waste of money on their part, but it's all part of their process. Returns are efficiently processed, rarely have I seen something get screwed up, etc. As for the CS, it's been nothing but stellar for me. Every time I've called to complain about a problem or asked them to bend/extend rules, they've been very accommodating. A few times they've given me $10 credits just for my hassles. We've been Prime members for 4 or 5 years and have used their company consistently and frequently. I check Amazon Prime first before turning to any other shopping site. Many times they're much cheaper than competitors. Last 6 pairs of shoes were significantly lower in price than Zappos, Shoebuy or Shoes (even with any coupons you can find online)
