Buy wiper inserts now

BMW NA HAS JUST DISCONTINUED WIPER INSERTS FOR THE E46, PART NUMBER
61 61 0 154 440

I highly suggest getting them now because you will end up replacing both blades which will be about $85 retail, insteado of inserts which cost about less than 10 bucks to replace each time.

I work at the parts department for BMW

Bosch still makes the full wiper assemblies... they are called the Twin Spoiler 394s... I just got them from FCP for $35 - Amazon has them as well.

http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-33970013...h+twin+spoiler

I was wondering how long before BMW forced us to go to the aero-flat wipers.

Trico inserts. Found them at an O'Reillys for about six bucks. Not out on a rack, behind the counter.

The current inserts sold by my local stealership are "cut-to-fit" kind. About $4 each, and have notches at certain mm lengths that correspond to various vehicles. Seems like this would be what they will keep selling. Mine fit fine.

Or try PiAA Silicone wipers. I switched to them this spring. They clean the glass much better than OE, and don't chatter. I'm much happier.

Is it possible that BMW NA is simply superseding this part to a newer one rather than eliminating the inserts entirely?

HAte to bring back an old thread, but not only did they discontinue them, they had my local dealership SEND THEM BACK! I called them up today and they told me that, and that these new blades are like 60 something dollars a set! I'm going with your recommendations now

Just to let you know, we got some confirmation and additional information of the BMW dealer "value line" wiper insert part number deletion over in this thread today:
- Where to buy wiper blade refills (1) & a DIY for replacing your windshield wiper blades (1) & how to replace the wiper arm (1) (2) & troubleshooting or replacing the wiper motor (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) or wiper switch (1) or wiper relay (1) & how to replace the wind shield rain sensor (1) (2) & retrofitting an aftermarket rain sensor (1) (2) (3) & how to remove Rain-X water wiper streaks & spots on windshield glass (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)

Here's just one post of the those that came after I pointed them to this E46 thread.

E-46 Bosch Twin Spolier 394s Replacement wiper blades

11/05/2013. went to local BMW dealership parts dept; Rubber blade replacement seems so much like 2012... They now only sell the set of twin spoiler (Bosch item33970013944VB) about $65. I drove one-half mile to O'Reilly Auto parts ( $54) to physically review product. I found the new Twin set included Wiper blade guide (BMW # 61-61-8-263-685) and wiper blade clip guide (BMW#61-61-8-263-676) plus correct length of wiper rubber blade ( driver 580mm / 23" and passenger 500mm / 20").

I used rational of $54 was inexpensive insurance for winter driving. Since I had original wiper blades for 10 years, I think I got my use out of the original set ( Purchased March 2003).
Much Aloha
