Exhaust

Iwant to change the exhaust to an after market on my 2013 X3 35i. However, does anyone know the "real" reason for the vacuum operated valve in the current exhaust.
If it's for back pressure for the turbo or some other reason I don't want the affect the warranty by changing the exhaust..
