Rubber boot falling from wipershaft drive rod

Hi everybody.

The piece labelled #6 as deteriorate, making the drive rod (#7) fall from the wipershaft mechanism and causing a no windshield wiper condition (and now it's raining a lot in Azores).

Does anybody knows how the rubber boot (#6) is attached to the drive rod???

As a quick fix, I drilled a hole throw the drive rod, then run a piece of wire with a bolt on the drive rod to split the wire in two and tight it on the other side of the fixed ball. Better solution for this???

did you spray paint the wire black ! if so leave it
