E39 (1997 - 2003)

How to flush the radiator ?

I have a 98 540ia and I feel like its time for a flush just got the oem Bmw coolant,just need help on how to flush it thank you.

Why do you think you need to flush it? Do you suspect clogs? If the rad has more than 100k on it, it's due for replacement.

Just drain the rad and the block (pull both block plugs), and fill with 50/50 mix of distilled water. Be sure to carefully follow the bleeding instructions.

Most of us replace it well before it would need flushing.

If BMW knew how to design radiators, then maybe we'd get a chance to flush it - but - otherwise ... naaaaah.

BTW, here's the picture of the inside of 'my' radiator ...

I replaced my radiator about 15k miles ago but since then had low coolant warning twice and the float doesn't raise up anymore plus I topped it of with tap water which I know im an idiot for doing :sly:
