Question about the brakes on the 2013 X1 xDrive28i
I picked up my new leased X1 this past Monday and I've driven it about 250 miles already. I am loving the car but I've noticed some possible issues with my brakes - More often than not, when I stop at a red light, the brake disengages slightly without my foot moving. This has never happened before on any other car I've driven regularly (including BMW sedans). It doesn't completely release. It only releases enough so that the car moves up a couple of inches.
It's very noticeable when the Auto Stop/Start function is on - when I stop at a red light, the Auto Stop/Start will engage and then disengage on it's own without my foot moving from the brake. Sometimes I also notice that when the brake is pressed down, it will release on it's own and let me push the pedal all the way down to the floor. Anybody else notice anything like this? If I take it in to the service center, I don't want to sound like a crazy person. Last edited by jonnyz; 01-05-2013 at 07:39 PM. |

You have a serious problem. You should not be able to push the brake pedal to the floor under any normal circumstances.
The automatic stop start may stop and then restart based on things like engine load caused by the need for heating or AC (AC not likely in the winter) etc. so that is not necessarily unusual. I think a visit to your dealer's service department is urgent. Brake issues can result in accidents.

Completely agree with whitby...
get it checked out ASAP Let them know that the car feels unsafe...they should jump right on it.

Perhaps it's this feature gone awry
"Brake dry- When the windshield wiper is operating in continuous wipe mode, the wheel brakes are lightly applied against the brake disc cyclically every 90 seconds in order to wipe off the water film." Whatever it is though it sounds potentially very dangerous, take it in and get a loaner Last edited by Farkled; 01-05-2013 at 10:49 PM. |
