Finally replaced the leaky OFH gasket. Not too difficult just a little bit of time. Nice 70 day in November so it was comfy in the garage.

The wife curbed the front bumper pretty good yesterday so I think that Mtech upgrade is soon to come.

Just stuck the BMw in the garage last night. There is now a 3 foot snow drift in front of the door.

Hopped in the Range Rover and drove around to get stuff I needed in this nasty snow storm.

I'm still in "Shakedown Cruise" Mode, but after putting on 5K miles since I bought it......I can find nothing that needs urgent attention.

I have to get thru New Jersey Inspection in December which is mainly Emissions Check. The Near Term goal is to clear that hurdle without doing anything Major to fight the Battle of the HydroCarbons.

Beyond that, next Spring I'd like to replace the Rear Shocks and add the Sway Bar. Also thinking about a Window Tint.

Changed two ruptured hoses and expansion tank over the last 2 months. I've been putting too many miles on my baby lately. I need to buy a beater. I'm thinking a 2012 Civic.

Bought my 540i last month. Going through all the maintenance items since I don't have a complete history on it.

Just got done replacing the following:
- Air filter
- Diff fluid with Mobil 1 75w90
- Trans fluid with RP Synchromax
- Clutch/Brake fluid flush (DOT 4).
- Oil and filter (Mobil 1 0w40, Mann HU938/4X)

Flush of power steering deferred until I verify whether or not one of the hoses has a slow leak.

Coolant not replaced. The cooling system was replaced not more than a year ago based on the date code on the Behr radiator and the condition of the other parts - WP and thermostat housing.

Also, in the process of cleaning/conditioning the leather seats with Zaino Z-9/Z-10.

Today I replaced the Lower Oil Pan Gasket, the oil level sending unit gasket, and changed the oil with Mobil 1 0w-40 as well as the oil filter. I also replaced my drain plug with a magnetic drain plug.

I'll contribute since I've done a considerable amount of work over the last 4 months. In late summer I replaced Bilstien sports that had been on the car for at least 6 years with Koni Yellows and OEM sport springs. I will be re lowering in in the spring with H&Rs.

Last month the car started overheating and found out the Head Gasket was blown. Here's a list of what was done/replaced:

Head gasket
Head set
Exhaust manifold
I needed a set of head bolts
Thermostat
New upper intake boot (old one was torn)
Disa valve
Timing Chain guide (old one was broken)
VANOS line
VANOS seals
Set of water pipes under the intake (cracked and brittle)
Strut mounts
All belts
Valve cover gasket
Oil filter housing gasket
Temperature sensor O-ring
BG brake flush **Noticeable difference in brake feel! Definelty reccommend!!**

Not Including the suspension the work came up to $2200 from my BMW indy.

Car has 170,000 miles and has never run this good since I've owned it. I notice the engine sounds different on start up, anyone else experience this after changing the VANOS seals? I was without the car for a month but the she has LIFE again!

Well, My engine lost power going over the mountains towards Asheville, NC. Worried about engine so had it towed back to Mooresville. Engine was running really rough, oil was clean and mechanic said radiator fluid was a little low but ok. Never had the Service Engine light come on until the engine lost power. I did have the yellow crud under the oil cap and had noticed some smoking but attributed that to the crazy cold weather we've had in NC.

First Mechanic said blown head gasket (major compression loss in Cylinder 4). Wanted 2nd opinion so had it towed to recommended mechanic. They don't think it is the head gasket, they think it is a valve spring issue. They are researching that today.

Anyways, repairs not looking good. Lots of $$. Bought the care this summer with 113K and it now has 119K. Always checked under the car for leaks, kept the oil up to level (it did burn some), let the care warm up before driving.

Can you say BUMMED....

That's what I've done with my E39 this week.

did my timing covers and valve cover gaskets. broke the air pipe, so ended up taking it to the indy specialist, and while there had them replace the alternator since it was on its last leg.

wishbones

What I had done right after buying my 530d in September are both the rear wishbones. (broken seal on spherical bearings). Costed about 800 EUR without alignment.

Oil service coming up this week (light is on), thinking about doing it myself. quotation from specialist for 220 EUR, 120 of which is for the oil alone. Looks like I can order Castrol EDGE Professional A3 0W-30 (BMW Longlife 01) for about 12 EUR a liter incl shipping. Include a OEM BMW filter set for about 25 EUR and I'm not yet at half that price and seems easy enough... I will use the saved 100 EUR to buy a proper torque wrench that I need for that job. Nice excuse he?

After I had my 525d overhauled last July (tires 4x, brake rotors 4x, oil service, rubber mountings for tension struts front 2x, left rear control arm, etc. (cost 3000 EUR) it died three weeks later on returning from holiday. F**K!
I stripped it quite well for useful parts, so the new front tension struts and rear control arm are waiting in the basement for their new installation on my current 530d, which I will have installed somewhere next month or two. I'm still saving for two new front wishbones as well as the macpherson struts and swing supports for the front stabilizer that it also needs.... And there I thought that my girlfriend and kids were expensive...

Motor mounts seem to be worn as well, will receive quotation for that this week.
(drove 10000 kilometers since purchase)
