How would this work out ? Buying in Advance
Hey All...
Question for the dealers. I will be buying a new X3 for my wifes birthday this August, and have an Accord to trade in as well. I know the configuration I want will have to be special ordered from Spartanburg. First question.. Living in NJ, how soon should I go and make a deal for the ability to take delivery 3rd week of August ? Second Question... Being that I will be wanting to trade in her current car, How would that work? Will the dealer base the deal on what the value of the trade will be when we pick up the new X3? and in August hand over the trade ? Im assuming I should probably have an agreement made sometime in June ? or is that too early? |

Welcome to the 'Fest.
Your situation is uncommon but has occurred in the past. Run a search for "trade in" as the subject, and you'll probably find a few more experiences than what most are familiar with now. What it usually comes down to is what process you and the dealer can agree to. But also think about contingencies - like what happens if an accident occurs post agreement, before pickup.

Thanks guys for the responses, although I may have confused the question by throwing Spartanburg in there. I plan on taking delivery here in NJ.
But this has to be a pretty common thing to special order a new car, and trading in an old one? Now correct me if im wrong, I would have guessed the process to be one of two things. They evaluate the trade in at time of ordering, and we come up with an agreed value at delivery time, turn in trade at deliver of new car. or They wont evaluate the trade till tne new vehicle arrives, and then takes the value off of the selling price agreed at time of deal. Im not sure how this works, as we have always been off the lot buyers. This time around we want something that we actually want to drive, and didnt settle for. |

Have the dealer appraise your vehicle at time of ordering. They will not be able to provide you with an exact $ amount but they will be able to provide you with a $ range assuming mileage, condition and market does not drastically change. Example ...a couple of years ago customers that wanted to trade in their Toyota/Lexus models AFTER the deacceleration drama...saw a stop on trades of that brand till the issue/s were resolved. So all these BMWs that were ordered with trades appraised BEFORE the news ...dead in the water
