Great ideas in this thread. Just starting to program mine..love the split screen and navigation route list button ideas.

By the way, press and hold 1 and 8 at the same time and it will delete all the button presets. Might be helpful for those with multiple girlfriends programmed if one should start pressing the buttons

AWESOME INFO! I thought this can only be set to Radio Stations. Looks like I have more playing around to do with my car.

How the hell do you activate the 3D Map? I can't seem to find anything on that. Mine just shows the regular Map view.

It's not called 3D. It's called "map with perspective view" or something like that. Turn on split screen and go to split screen content. It's about half way in

Or if you want the whole screen to be in 3D perspective mode, go to map views, and select perspective (not in the split screen menu).

Mine are:
1) Wife Cell
2) Dad Cell
3) Mom Cell
4) Parents House
5) Office Phone
6) BMW Office
7) Vehicle Status
8) Trip Computer

Sweeeet. More toys to play with tomorrow.

As of now I learned about new presets, how to get the "3D Maps", and how to get the radio to turn off with the car if I'm not ready to lock it yet (press the "Start" button twice).

Incorrect. There is an option for 'perspective view in 3D', go to map views, then additional options and you will see a check box for 'show perspective view in 3D'.

Make one of the 1-8 buttons "presets". Presets are set for any radio band, including sat.

Once there, you can roll through the entire preset list using the scroll wheel on your steering wheel. I have about 20 presets so using the 1-8 buttons wouldn't do squat.

Exactly this. Love the scroll wheel. Quickly change songs on the USB stick, or preset sat stations.

BTW, I don't even have to use a button for presets. That's the mode I leave radio in. So I can quickly flip between sat & USB by using MODE, then use the scroll wheel to select a station/track.

Easy peasy

Nothing set.

In my last E60 I had my wife, home phone and the kids phones and a couple Sirius channels. When I traded the car I thought I deleted all my data but apparently forgot to clear those buttons. The lady that bought the car was calling my wife and kids by accident for several months until she figured out how to reprogram the buttons. I hope she liked the Grateful Dead as that was button #5.

On the F10 I find it easier to bring up the phone directory on the Idrive display and have those numbers as the first four in the list. Haven't thought of any other use for the buttons that would be useful to me. I don't need the Sirius settings since I have let that service lapse and listen to my own music collection on hard drive, Ipod and USB.

No need to waste a preset button for radio stations, with the mode button and the scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

Interesting, I only use one of the 8 for an actual radio station, and rarely use it. 95% of the time I'm on Presets screen and simply turn my iDrive control for the station I want and press down. Why even use the "hard" buttons for the radio? If I'm on the Nav screen and want to change stations, I use the scroll wheel on the steering wheel. You do know you can store your favorites as "presets", then use the preset menu I'm talking about? You can mix all bands in the single list (FM, SAT, etc)

EDIT -- I see Needsdecaf and others have mentioned some of this already -- I may have been hasty.

Why waste one of the 8 for "Presets"? Just press the Radio button near the iDrive controller and leave you sub-setting in Presets. This takes you directly to the Presets screen.

I've finally hit 1,000 miles on my F10 (picked up in mid-September) and finally programmed button #1 to go to ESPN (Sat) and #2 to go to the local NPR station. Woohoo.
