Seat Warmers Burned a hole!

Has anyone had any experience with the seat warmers malfunctioning? I turned mine on the other day and on the drivers seat in the lower left of the back support portion, it got so hot it actually burned a hole through the leather and into my coat.

Holy crap! I haven't had this happen, but I have wondered what kind of wear these super hot seat warmers have on the leather. I've noticed that I get a red, vertical sinusoidal wave pattern on my back when I set them to high and sit on the seat for more than a couple minutes.

Holy crap!!! I know they get hot but... But hot damn.

Too bad the ventilated (cooled) function doesn't work as well as the heated function.

Nope, not a cigarette as it's still doing it when I turn them on again. Very weird.

That's precisely why I skipped that option (it kills me that GM does a better job with this than BMW). I also can't help but think the non-perforated leather will hold up to mechanical and thermal stress better by virtue of the fact that the material isn't interrupted with a million holes. This point isn't really an issue now that the perforated leather is standard on the 650i.

I have heated/cooled leather seats in my F150 and they are fantastic. The heated seats in the A6 don't get very warm even on the highest setting of 6. Must be a German thing.

The BMW ventilated seats are not meant to turn your spine into a giant icicle. They are meant to remove moisture from your back and actually work really well in that respect without freezing you out.

There are two types of cooled seats. Some that simply have a fan to circulate ambiant air and others that actually blow A/C air through the seat.

All my BMWs have always had amazingly hot and fast seat heaters. My wife's Infinitys and other cars I've had and been in are much slower to heat up. Burning through the leather, however, is an extremly dangerous fault. It seems hard to beleive. Please let us know wht the dealership says.

Happened on my X3 seat! Burned my wife's leg! The dealer repaired it under Goodwill as the CPO warranty had just expired.

Happened to my neighbor on her Impala, burnt a hole in her coat.
I never turn my heaters on because I drive my 6er only in the summer.

Same thing happen to my 645 this morning!!! And the same spot!!What did the dealer tell you? They told me my car is out of warranty over the phone but they told me to bring it in.... they have to replace the chair or fix it! That's law suit! And very unsafe

Ask for a goodwill repair.
