E90 vs. E60

About to leave E36 land for a E90 or E60. It will be a daily driver but it will not stay stock by any means. Will be a sedan for the little guy. He's sick of the coupe. Make the case for the E90.

What year and model 3 and 5 are you looking at? I had a 545i a while back and now have a 335i so I can give you a few tips.

E90 is 300-400 pounds lighter and thus sportier and faster given equivalent engines. Plenty of room for a small family. Unless you need more room or more luxury, there's no need for the 5 series.

Pre LCI 06-08 pref 325/328 not picky about RWD vs Xdrive.

Not a lot to go on. What're yer druthers?

E90 has massive base of forums, modders & racers at all levels. Having modded myself, great improvement is possible.

E60 sweetly soft - pretty great DD in all weathers.

BUT....if a hobby car, you won't come close to an '88/89 911, sinful pleasure....

E90 RWD - sportier, plenty of power without blowing the roof, less electronics=less problems down the road, more fuel efficient, less expensive, simple understated beauty, less pretentious. Stay away from xdrive.

E90 if your under 35

E60 535i (N54 engine, you said it won;t stay stock so this is the engine of choice for modding), is only 150lb heavier than E90 335i, due to aluminum suspension, front fenders etc.
