Wrecked my car..insurance totalled! what do you guys think?

hey guys..

i wrecked my 02, 745li...it had 170k+ miles on it. i was just planning on fixing my valve stem cover leak, and coolant leak, before the wreck. it would have cost me around $4000 to tackle both leaks...im just glad the accident didnt happen after i decided to fix those problems.
My insurance decided to total the vehicle and offered me $9300 for it. I also, i have an option to buy back the salvage car for $2800, if i do, ill receive $6500. im thinking of buying it back and just parting out the salvage, and probably make a few extra bucks?

i dont think it will be worth fixing, becuase of the valve stem cover, and the coolant pipe leak i had. Also, the car has 170k+ miles on it. i attached pics for the damage to the vehicle. what do you guys think? do you guys suggest i should buy it back for $2800? will i be able to part it out for more?...i dont think its worth fixing to keep

I did that with an E46 that my son totalled (about 140k miles). I ended up coming out ahead and having a stock pile of extra parts for the replacement E46, but it was a ton of hard work. The worst part was getting rid of the carcass. Let them keep it and move on. Might want to (try to) negotiate that settlement higher by finding out what the true value is/was.

I would buy back in an instant for $2,800.. there are plenty of parts on that car to make you that money and much more.. $9,300 for an 02 with 170k+ is a nice figure. Your insurance is doing right by you. Take the $6,500 keep the car and part it out.. You will make some good cash.. Many of the parts under the hood are still fine, much of the interior, all the computer modules, amps, and everything in the trunk.. the wheels, suspension parts, your transmission if it's been rebuilt, your rear subframe, diff, etc.. your seats.. all that stuff adds up very quickly.

Looks like your alt. is water cooled, is it original? I may be interested in it if it's not.

Take the $$ an RUN! You can use that $9k as a down payment on something else. P.S I don't think anyone is buying 745 parts.. Good Luck!

IF you have the space to keep the car and you're willing to break it then its worth doing, if not then I'd keep the money and buy something else.

How much do 745's go for in the USA?? they sound to be much cheaper here - you can pick them up for 3750-4250 for one with most of the spec and about 100k miles xD

EDIT: Just realised it was an Li, yeah they go for more here.

I say the only things anyone might be interested in is the L7 an the factory wheels. The navi is outdated most are upgrading, the ask maybe the MMI probably not. Take the the L7 out an if you can put some BS wheels on do that BUT leave the car alone you wont make that $2800.00 back. Get the 9k bro. If you think by keeping the car you will make money I think your wrong.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time, effort and space trying to part it out. I'd try to get a little more from the insurance (by trying to negotiate) and walk away..

Prolly get your money back easily. But I dunno if you will be able to make it all the way back to what the insurance is offering. The only time I suggest buying back, is if you plan to drive it. My friends beater car was been totaled twice and he still drives it lol

However, if you do get it back, their are a few parts I would want.

100k miles is quite different than 170k miles.

Someone bought a nicely modded car with no work or labor on their part. I highly doubt it was sold with factory wheels on the car and the bodykit removed.

To the OP, buy the car back and part it out and make some more $$$. The wheels are worth 500-600, wood is worth 200-300, etc. If you have a Creme/Beige interior I'd even buy some parts from you!

I'd say take the 9300 and run! That is a great offer for an 02 with that many miles. You can't even sell it for that much! And no worrying about parting it out (it's not easy)
