525i with 20's...? doable? realistic?
I have a 2004 525i and I'm considering putting 20" replica 166 wheels on it. They come with tires for $1000, and they are slightly used. I am buying them from a buddy. The car is riding on stock suspension. I am also considering coilovers to slightly modify the ride height and stance.
Tire size: 245/35/20 275/30/20 Does anyone have any input to add? Is the 20 a bad idea on this car? Has anyone done it and been satisfied? I also come from a past of lowering all my cars, with big rims and low pro tires so I do understand the concept of it, but just unsure if this is the right decision. Any help would be great! and my username is 10til6FAVEe60 because I wrecked my 2006 550i which had OEM 166 19' wheels and I loved the sh*t out of that car. Thanks! |

Can't help with your questions but you went from a 50 to a 25? How are you handling the power difference?

Baller- Thank you. Your car looks great! very clean look, I like it a lot. Did the car have sports suspension? Did you modify it?

Thank you, the car does have the sports package and no major modifying at all. The only thing I'm buying next for it is a new rim/tire package for the cold season because right now I have nitto 555's and they are horrid in the Cold rain/sleet. Still keeping the current rims and tires

I have 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the back, and they ride fine. I have spacers on the front and back just to make them flush. Had to roll out the rear fender a little. There is no rubbing at all. Even with a full car. I have Michelin Pilots and the ride is awsome. Very smooth ride. I have a M-Sport with stock suspension. I prefer the ride with the 20's over the stock 18's honestly.

I have 20'' Vossens on my 545. I got Hankook Evo V12 tires. I also went with a 10.5 width on the rear with a 285 series. I think the ride is significantly better than the stock runflats and the handling is the same if not slightly better.

Wow I love those rims, Baller. How much did that set cost you, and two, what do you do with the rims that come with the vehicle? I also have a 2007 530i with sports pkg, and eventually would love to move to custom rims but cost and what do I do with what I have stops me. Any suggestions?

20's IMO look the best for an e60. As long as you get the right setup your ride quality should not suffer. Also the roads down the South Bay are pretty good which help.
