On a more serious note, how does a nice e46 m3 sound.
That's what I've been leaning towards.

Just got back from the local pic-n-pull. Several 318, couple 5's and 7's 325ic, 318ti. Took tons of pics if any needs anything. Didn't want to add to parts car thread since they aren't mine. But I'll get something if someone needs it.

I need a black glovebox desperately. I had to break mine open. I had my phone and wallet in there when driving and needed my wallet immediately but the glovebox wouldn't open. I was messing with it for about 5 minutes before I just broke it open

Pretty sure one of them had a black interior. I took photos of interiors as well. So I'll look when I get the camera uploaded and I'll post whatever photos of black interiors I find. Do you need just the door or the entire glove box?

Too hot to pull out the plugs to see what's going on? I need something to do

The motor itself isn't hot to touch in fact it feels really good keeps my hand warm lol

Chad has a better deal than I'd get. It was present though and in decent shape.

Jon, assume you are in the Navy? My brother was stationed in Charleston with the aircraft carrier Frank Cable many moons ago. Very cool.

No, the only reason she's advising me against it is so that I buy the m3 I've wanted forever. My answer was ill just get both!

I'm not in the navy, but i do work for them as a contractor for my real job. But the ship is the USS Yorktown a WWII carrier commissioned in 1943 that fought in the pacific. She is a museum here now, and I give the Cub Scouts that stay overnight on board ghost tours of the ship. It's a ton of fun.

Talking to some one with a Ti on Craigslist for $1800, has 143,000 miles on the body and allegedly 30,000 on he engine. It was in a fender bender 7 years ago and has been sitting since, the front end has to be reassembled, will probably need a new hood and bumper to make it look nice, and worst of all it's an automatic, thinking I'll offer $450 and to have it off her property within 48 hours, thoughts?.

They'll either laugh in your face or get pissed. $1800 is unrealistic, but offering 1/4th of their asking isn't negotiating. It's an insult.

Talked to her again, that asking price is because some charity is offering her a $1600 tax write off for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming she's in a 33% bracket doesn't that boil down to about $530 off her taxes?, if she's willing to do that then maybe $550 cash now wouldn't be unreasonable

yeah, it's pretty similar to getting 2500 on 'trade in' when taking a 1988 crown vic in to a new car dealership...sounds like a lot but it doesn't equate to much in 'real cash'.

but the worst she could say is no. still, get your facts together, and even check with an accountant to see how much '1600' in tax deductions = in the amount of refund difference. it could only help your negotiations.

but, as always, but courteous. apparently people sorta like that...who knew??

Chip I saw a 318 that was a manual trans today at the junkyard. So if you want to find a transmission for that I may have one here.

Yeah, I'm not trying to screw any one over, but for an unrepaired wrecked car that's been sitting for 7 years and I have to make a 420 mile round trip to pick it up I'm not willing to pay a huge amount of money.

A bargaining chip for you: they're being dishonest. The charity can "value" her car at $1600, but IRS only lets you deduct the actual amount it sells for at auction or if they sell direct to public, which will likely be significantly less. So figure 33% of like $800. They can't guarantee her an actual amount. The exception is if the charity actually uses it in their fleet as a company car, then she gets.market value.

Just present it as info that you're giving her being on her side , as a friend. Tell her she should double check with her CPA or IRS website before she does anything.

Personal note, I hate when people say that "they're coming from a long way" so they should get a better deal. As a seller, I don't care if you're coming from Mars, if it wasn't a better deal than anything you could get locally on a car you wanted, you wouldn't be calling me, so don't low ball and expect sympathy from me. I tell people that all the time.

If it works for you, great, but it always pisses me off.
