What type of fitment should I do on my 1998 Z3 1.9l?
I'm wanting to lower my car with coil overs and don't know what I should get and I'm also looking for wheels that are light and good for racing? Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Also I am wondering if I will have to roll my fenders as well?

I to am working on getting my Z fitted. From the info I have gathered the roll depends on the body your in. Ive noticed with the "refresh" in bodies mid way through production the rear fenders seem much wider as with the M's. This giving you a lot to work with without rolling. Like with mine the back is relativly narrow (being an early 97) I have considered it for the rear to run 10.5's.
Other things I hvae run into with the first drop: the outside looks like its still sitting high yet the undercarriage is very very close to the ground. ( I lost my spare tire holder to a curb) The pressure of the springs, coilovers, shocks etc should be paid close attention. I noticed with my first set of H&R springs that they are fairly tight but hit a big enough pot hole at the right speed and youll scrape your belly. HARD. The actual "fit" of everything (well, wheel/tire wise) can usually be handled with spacers of varying sizes. What kind/size of wheels and tires do you intend on running? Are you looking for well/fender gap closing or laying frame to the ground? Do you want adjustablility or simplicity? What kind of road time and conditions does your car see the most? A lot of things to be considered. Good luck my friend! |

Lucky you! I wish I saw more highway/interstate driving lol
I went with H&R lowering springs first with new shocks and struts. Closed the gap up but it leaves a bit to be desired if youre trying for the stanced look. Ordered KW stage one coilovers. Waiting on them to arrive. Im inclined to believe theyll be the proper route. If youre looking towards the lowering springs, i'll be putting mine up for sale in the next week or so. They might have been on the car for 2000 miles. Still have the original box and all. Also, I see your info thing says Houston. I'll hopefully be moving out there with my dad in the next few months! Ok,
You want wheels "that are light and good for racing" and you want to lower the car. But you "dnt have a whole lot of money". Wheels that are light and strong will be expensive. Heavier than stock wheels will seriously hurt your 1.9's acceleration. Looking at Apex ARC wheels, assuming the fitment is correct, the cheapest 17" and 18" combo would be $1,100. I should add I have no personal experience with these wheels. Based on what I've read, ARC wheels seem to be the popular, inexpensive, performance wheel. I'd suggest you decide if looks or performance is the most important to you. And spend your entire budget on either wheels (looks) or suspension (performance). Then you can start saving for the next mod. Better to do one thing right than two things poorly. Last edited by dougmcintyre; 02-15-2013 at 01:37 PM. |
