lets see if i can add to this lol, the accessory tension pulley randomly falls apart, it magically holds 10 quarts of oil, stretching the tires on M3 wheels will have a slow leak, fast if you power around a corner, the first time it over heats, instantly need a new coolant bottle, or just melt more plastic on top of it with a soldering iron, if your car shakes when changing lanes or there is a natural side grade on the road, well time for a new tie rod assymbly(car Quest is the cheapest for oem parts), there is much more, this was just off the top of my head, oh and if you grindinding and clunking gear randomly, then all shift bushing are worn, get the complete kit from pelicanparts.com for around $80, the E46 shifter on the 325 counts as a short shifter.......imagine im new to BMW and owned mine for under a year lol, i still love the d@mn thing tho.

the shifter thing is what i read on one of the after market websites, and the 10 quart thing is what i was told, i did some research on that, and it comes down to the dipstick is the 92 325i not the 97 M3 that my block is, apparently there is a different length between the 2, im a change it in the spring tho.

Obviously e36's are faster than any other car ever, we need the oil to back up all that power |

Is it also common for BMWs to idle a bit louder than other cars? Or do I need oil treatment...?

It might be cause every bmw ive been close to had the deep hum while idling but nothing out of the ordinary i just assumed it was the exhaust casue if you ever hear a bmw pull off they still sound nice even with the stock exhaust

My car at idle in an underground parking garage can set off car alarms sometimes. My car at WOT in an underground garage sets off alarms all the time.

Not the cold weather, that is just one chime. Memo is three chimes.

You said "BMW"-- not a specific model or platform-- for comparison, I have to look at the tach of my E38 sometimes if I'm distracted after starting-- and when navigating parking lots, walking pedestrians never hear me patiently waiting for them to move out of the center of the lane. Based on my experience, and those of reliable others: Don't put anything in your crankcase other than spec oil, and lubri moly products. [that suggestion is NOT an invitation to open a discussion of what snake oil is best / why, or why I think this or that. Just my 0.02, that's all]

Things about E36's funny but true:
Ill feelings built up over repairs quickly dissipate once complete and one returns to the driver seat.

My little Coupe does that and I had it checked out. The mechanic told me some cars are louder than others and that mine was fine. I think it's the way these cars are built.

1997 318ti stereo system
Hi Bimmer friends. I have a low mileage, less than 50,000 318ti hatchback. the rear speakers are in bad shape. they pop and crack at half volume. I also am updating the cassette deck receiver with a Pioneer DHX3500U. In my research and talking with my local car audio store I have found I cant simply by aftermarket rear speakers and plug them in. They wont work with the factory amp. I do have an amp, i have a 10 speaker system which means there is an amp and I have also located it in the trunk on the drivers side wall mounted on the inside of the rear quarter panel. I am asking for anyone who has experience in the audio system or knowledge that will help me to please share your info. It will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul |
