oil very low on 2012 750li

The engine light came on recently and after bringing it to the dealer I found that the oil was below minimum. Is this a known issue for the 750's? They filled the oil back up but I'm still concerned about what exactly made that happen.

I was told by my sales guy last month to bring my car in for a free quart of oil every month. I was not sure if he was kidding or not!

To be honest, as crazy as it sounds, I'd rather the car burn through oil than to keep using the same oil for 15k miles...

If the dealership is nice and couteous enough not to charge me for the top off, no big deal. And I know some fresh oil is getting in there more often than what BMW covers normally, which I would prefer.

It's like would you be rather shot in the arm or shot in the leg???

Burning oil is normal. The end-of-the-world warning wasn't shocked me the first time it came up, but the dealer said to just bringing it at my earliest convenience (i.e., I was still fine). I brought the car to the closest service center (not my preferred dealer) and they topped it off for free. I then bought a quart of oil and put it in my trunk in case something like this happens again. I forgot the price but it was pretty cheap.

+1, this is normal. Keep a quart or two in the trunk as the warning typically comes when you are 1 quart low. I get this every few thousand miles depending on how spirited I drive.

Been discussed MANY times, for many years. My 2010 750i needed a quart every 2000 miles or so. For some reason, my 2012 AH 750i never needed oil. But every person I know that has a 2009-2012 7 Series, must add oil regularly. We had a 2010 Rolls Royce loaner a few months back, and the warning message came up to add a quart of oil (BMW based system and car). So far, my 2012 Rolls has not warned of oil. Our last Porsche Turbo 911 (2009) went thru a quart every 500-1000 miles!!!! :-o
I find it funny that BMW's free Scheduled Maintenance does NOT cover this needed extra oil. Many dealers provided the oil for free, but some do no. My awesome BMW Advisor used to just sneak & hand me a quart. When he left, his replacement would charge me about $9.50 for a qt. of BMW branded oil. I would just buy my own Castrol for much less.

So what type of Oil is supposed to be used in the 2010 750 LI. My electronic guage is approaching min leve.

Pretty sure it was 5W-30 Castrol Synthetic.

Its all about the turbos. if you kick it in the ass a lot, the turbos will burn oil. When i first got my car i was burning oil all the time, when i settled down a little the oil consumption went down. however, i always keep a quart of oil in my trunk.

Last week I needed a quart after 7 months of use.

I've too noticed my oil gauge is around 50% now with 6500 miles on it.

I got a 2013 BMW 750 Li similar to the picture you have in your icon. I am having oil problems at 2700 miles, 3500, and after 2 days of toping off oil. The engine is consuming too much oil every 1000 miles. I rad that the oil sensor maybe picky. Any ideas on your side why so much in such short distances? I got no response from the dealer of HQ.

The posts above was back when I had my '12. Do you drive primarily in the city? That could be the cause why you're going through so much oil.

I would try a different dealer, and see what they say, if not go to the Service Manager/Director.
