I will state this again
I have raved about the X being an awesome long distance cruiser before , well I just have to say it again, just got back from a 1400 mile roundtrip dropping my son off at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, averaged 26 mpg at 75-80 mph speeds, I even find the standard seats fairly comfortable, this is my 4th trip in less than a year, I am at 30k miles, no issues at all on any of the trips, I am amazed how the X just " eats' the miles up

I have to agree. I picked up a 2011 X5d in Chicago Saturday morning, drove it straight through to VT (900 miles) at speeds between 65-95 and averaged 25.5 mpg. It has the comfort seats, which are amazing. After a 12 hour pit stop at my sister's house to pick up my wife and kids, I had another couple hours to drive on Sunday. I offered for my wife to drive but she declined, wanting to get used to the X5 from the passenger seat first. So I jumped back in the driver's seat with no hesitation at all and enjoyed every minute of it while averaging 29.4 mpg doing 45-65 on secondary roads!

I will agree. I have only taken one mini road-trip since picking up our 2011 CPO last September. It was a round trip from SE Michigan to Chicago and the return trip even included a snowstorm.
I was very pleased.

I cannot think of a vehicle which is a better combination of sport, performance, utility and elegance. The issues with the X5 relate to reliability, especially for the peripherals. If I keep mine beyond 50k, it will have an extended warranty.
I will add that the '14 Jeep Cherokee Diesel with 8-speed trans looks very interesting, especially if your general sensibility is more Sahara/ Dakar and not so Rodeo Drive; and if you are occasionally irked by the sheer hubris of some BMW owners. |

Yup, I agree. These German cars love the highway. Don't break a sweat and eat the miles right up

I agree, we put 1300 miles on ours over the week of Christmas and on the last leg of our trip from DC back to Charlotte we averaged 28MPG at about 70MPH all in complete comfort. We were stopping a lot for our new GSD puppy to use the bathroom so, I'm sure we could have averaged even better MPG had we been able to maintain a fairly constant speed.
