Is The 2013 Nav Update Worth Doing?

Sorry, no Taiwan. I have only 2013 North America and Europe.

I have PM'd you the information, but I am not sure if USB update will work on your 2009 328i if it is a pre 09/2009 build. You can try it, and then if the Map Update launches when you insert your USB Thumb Drive, then you will know it is working, and then proceed with getting the FSC Code.

Under the Navigation Options, there is a spot to Display the Navigation Version.

If you just picked up a 2013 though, I can almost guarantee you already have 2013 Maps loaded.

I want to thank Shawn again, this time publicly. What a great guy!

The update to the 2013 maps took several hours to get all the files etc. but the update process in the car, only about an hour.
I started it and was able to let it complete "in the background" while I was driving. iDrive restarted when done. It is a computer after all.

Pics:












Observations:

1) The navigation sometimes lags my actual position (where the car thinks it is located based on its GPS position info vs. actual physical location).
It is as if the GPS positioning doesn't refresh fast enough.
It's a 2-5 seconds, enough to make you miss a turn and create hesitation while waiting for the navigation to catch-up.
I have high hopes for this update. I expect to mitigate the crappy routing decisions the system makes. I hope the fault isn't 100% with the algorithms and that a better maps data set will help.

2) Is the 2013 maps/ POIs update worth it? Don't know yet, did this yesterday. Will edit this section once I have had a chance to drive some more.

3) Tips: in the right split screen, I'd like to mention that, once a destination has been entered and nav is guiding to it, you can zoom all the in past 100 feet to "AUTO" scale which will then zoom in/ out automatically so as to show the entire trip from current position to destination.
In case some of you hadn't noticed. I use it all the time.

4) Question, please let me know: what routing preference do you have the nav system to: Fastest, Shortest or Green Route?
I don't think I ever used the Green settings. I alternate between Fastest and Shortest and I am on Fastest 90% of the time.

Can you get Auto Zoom on the main screen with the Arrow View in the smaller screen?

No, I should have added that the AUTO scale isn't avail on the main (left) map.

Right?

Not only should it be avail but it should also be speed-sensitive in the main maps screen, regardless of what view it is set to (arrow, perspective etc.).

I on there changing it manually or via voice command from 100 ft, 400, 800 and 2.5 miles all the time because I don't trust what the nav wants me to do.

Edit: perhaps this could be coded?


Edit2: I had a chance to double check this today.
While Auto-scale isn't available on the main screen with Perspective View and it is with the two other maps views available.
