It lost in a magazine comparison. I've been reading the magazines for nearly 50 years (and still have them all). You have to understand what the magazine's criteria is for winning a comparison and then decide whether your criteria is the same as theirs. BTW, did you by any chance read the new C&D "Lightening Lap" where the M5 "Killed" the S6?

It's down over 100hp, how shocking.

Back on topic, the E63 was rated as a better driver's car than the F10 M5. How does that make some people here feel

That part is true. My dealer is a pretty small dealer - a satellite of the dealer downtown, yet they have three M5's sitting there right now.

My local dealer, Herb Chambers of Boston, has (according to their website) 5 M5s and 10 M6s

Ditto. They did do a nice redesign of that front end.

It is very good to see that everybody is doing allright!
Wonderfull that AU now can bash his hated 5 series by comparing with a quite too expressive example of bad German taste.
A nice car though, for driving in the dark.
Man it is ugly, not as bad as the Audi 7 (the ****ting dog as some people call them overhere), but close.

But to D, in three years time there should be some nicely priced used Bentley GT Speed Convertibles on offer.

Hah!

That is a nice car, better than the Merc mentioned in this thread by some miles and more...

And for the M5, well it is quite cheap to buy, something else to drive, so dealers can pile them up quite easily.

it's an arms race. more PSI! more torque! more weight! more electronic steering! pretty soon when the steering wheel is removed altogether, we may not even notice.

Uninformed question, if AU read it, he has forgotten about it within 4.1 secs.

Used? Please don't give Mrs D any ideas!

Although I had the realization about 3 months ago that I'm more of coupe/vert than a sedan type of guy, the pic below is the number one reason why I would not buy this car. It's why I ruled out the E550 Coupe a few years back. I just don't like the controls in this position.

I would rank this as my second biggest peeve after pop-up Nav screens. So with the E63 AMG and the RS6 ruled out due to my peeves, I can only hope someday the M-guys can figure out how to put xDrive in a car. I'm liking their AWD M truck a lot!

IMHO, AMG does have the best exhaust note. I remember there was a C63 at Bimmerfest East and it put ALL of the Bimmers to shame when he nailed it and emitted that sweet melody of deep bass exhaust notes.

AMG exhust is like the rumble of a grizzly bear while the scream of a NA M-engine at redline is like the howl of the big bad wolf. Both demands respect.

I was at the F1 Grand Prix in Austin in November and as you know the safety and medical cars are AMG vehicles (an SLS and a C63 Wagon respectively). The biggest surprise was that the C63 wagon sounded so much better than the SLS. It was truly an astonishingly good exhaust note.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was in Indianapolis 2004 it was an SLK 55 AMG that did safety car duty. It had a very nice sound. Bassy and pleasant though rather than raspy, screaming, racy and scary like the F1 cars.

'14 E63 4Matic is more desirable to the 99% of the drivers as a result of the AWD + gobs of HP.

The remaining 1% of drivers, who track their cars will continue to appreciate the power and RWD of the M cars.
I bet 99% of the members on this forum never track their cars, and are primarily concerned with how good their car looks and if they can enter/exit the on ramp quicker then the next car ...

And 99% of the that 1% want the linearity of the normally aspirated which is not the direction which M Division is moving.

P.S. My numbers are completely made up, just like the OP's.

The thread title reminds me a headline from another time when an M5 competitor offered more HP, more TQ and AWD. It was 2003, and even though the outgoing E39 M5 was outmatched on paper vs the RS6, it didn't really die, did it?

Competitors usually don't kill you if you're a fundamentally good car. That ball is still in BMW's court.
