Info on "Updated" Dinan High Flow Intake

I have a newly-acquired 2002 330xi. It's pretty stock, and I've been looking at the Dinan High Flow Intake as a performance upgrade. After doing some research online and reading a lot of DIYs, it appears Dinan has changed their High Flow intake very recently. I spoke with Dinan today, and they confirmed it.

Old Setup:
--Remove stock air box completely and replace with new (carbon/aluminum) intake tube with cone filter. Filter sits behind the bumper at fog light level.

New Setup:
--Replace stock air box with the new Dinan air box with updated high flow filter. Also, this has another "intake" running down behind the bumper to pull in more air. Part number is "D760-0002."

http://www.dinancars.com/Series.asp?...e%20Tuning#311

I have yet to find any good pictures or DIY installs of the new Dinan setup anywhere online. Has anyone installed this yet? Dinan told me they made the changes so it would fit more 3-series BMWs and b/c it is a superior design. Comments? HELP!

And the *serious* answer is, "NO"....the cost-to-benefit ratio is piss-poor.....save your money for important things.

Thanks, Bob!

I don't really care about adding performance at this point. I'm happy with the way it performs. However, now after 116k miles on my beautiful (unmodified) ZHP, I have an inkling to add a little "noise" to it, and make it sound a bit meaner!

I thought intake might be the way to go, but I guess I will probably pick up a sportier sounding exhaust in the near future.

Any suggestions??

That`s a tough call....especially since the ZHP already has what`s considered to be a healthy (but not obnoxious) exhaust note. Good-quality cat-back systems are not cheap, and might not give enough improvement to justify the cost.

Yeah Bob, that's the problem.

It sounds nice enough and any of the good catback systems are quite expensive!

I guess I'll just keep it in it's pristine, unmodified state!

In answer to OP's question, my car came with the Dinan package, and the intake is the "Updated" that you described. The package was probably installed '01-'04. It pulls air from the stock cover, same as OEM, as well as a tube that runs down behind the bumper.
