Hey guys! Yes I'm new!
Hey there guys, I am very new to the BMW world. I just traded for a 1999 528i sedan. So far I really like the car it needs a few little things here and there. The one major thing that has me baffeled I keep get a trouble code of 209 ews. I just can't seem to find anything that makes sense of what it could be. The other thing is it looks like there is an oil pan leak anyone do that how hard is it to do?
Thanks Josh |

209 ews? what is that?
The six requires that the engine be suspended by a trolley between the shock towers, and the subframe removed to drop the pan.

What did you use to read the code, OP? I'm with edjack, never seen "209 ews" before.

How sure are you that the leak is coming from the pan and not from something else? Is it coming from the driver side? If so, chances are, its from the Oil Filter Housing and not from the oil pan.

Never heard of that particular error code. But I have heard of an EWS module if that is what you are referring too. What color is that btw? I can't tell.

Thanks guys. The car is blue. The code was pulled using a snap on modiuos scanner. I don't know what it is the code came up and said the ews problem but the car runs fine so I'm really not sure about it. The oil leak I have no idea it was a mess under there so I cleaned it all off to see if I can see where it's coming from.

Oil leak sounds like the CCV or oil filter housing. Both will leak on the drivers side and is not very noticeable unless looking for it.
Both will wet the block forward and drivers side. Also could have a clogged drain going from the CCV to the dipstick tube. |

Well after getting under it and cleaning it off the oil doesn't seem to be coming from anywhere above the oil pan. It looks to be all around looks like some in the rear of the oil pan and around the front of the pan kinda hard to see if it is the pan on the front or a front crank seal. I will get some dye and see for sure where its coming from.
Thanks Josh
