Cup holders
1995 525i
This car not having cup holders is starting to get under my skin ![]() I have the little two cup holder piece BMW endorsed that clips on to the side, but that little rinky dink thing barely fits a water bottle, and even at that, it's FAR from stable, I've never driven with anything in there where it DIDNT spill. So, any ideas? What do you folks do, just never have drinks in your car?

That being said, Have a cup holder is an invite to have a beverage in my car. Having a beverage in my car means increased risk for spillage, stains, and other terrible, terrible things. I like to avoid these problems. I wouldnt want my girlfriends diet coke knocking over and draining itself into my window switches. Sticky acidic $hit eating away my electricals... fcuk that!

I spilled Mountain Dew in the window lift switch on the console of my previous E34. It got all gummed up. No amount of electrical contact cleaner sprayed in the switch helped. I had to bite the bullet and buy a new one (suprisingly only $75 at the dealer - about 5-6 years ago). That was before my pick-n-pull days though. I could probably get one for about $10 at the junkyard.
I do use the dual cup holder that hangs on the console. I'm just very careful now with the drinks. I hold the drinks when my wife gets in with her purse. No spills so far in this E34.

When I bought my car, the window switch wouldn't work so I pulled it out and dismantled it. Sure enough, the previous owner had spilled soda in it. I was able to wash it out and clean the contact points to make it work again. Not hard to do and was rewarding not having to buy a new switch.
Someone else had this idea this so I copied it. Been working great for a over a year now.

I have an automatic and live in a virtually flat part of the country so i haven't ever had to use the parking brake. I'm afraid if I DO try it, it will hang up due to rust and my brakes will drag.

I have the little BMW cup holder.
I use it for change, cellphone, and those skinny $0.99 16oz mountain dew bottles. Discovered them recently. Now my drinks don't fly across the cabin and out (or on) the window when taking a sharp turn.

Nice link to a DIY build! But this seems much easier.

As well there's a easy way to gain a little more storage space in the front part of the cabin.
IIRC there is a nylon net pocket that was available for side of the center console. Issue is if it is still available. However if your a yard rat or have some trashed comfort seats which are going to see the dumpster. Remove the rear pocket and mount it to the carpeted panel covering the side of the center console. Presto leather color matched storage pocket.
