do I need tire/wheel insurance in florida?
I'm signing this morning on a 535 with M sport. Do I need the tire and wheel insurance?
I'm in Florida. I've read the threads, it just seems all this wheel stuff happens in the north east. Can someone point me to a thread about swapping for non run flats? thanks |

Yes you need the ins
with the cost of the wheels, it's really necessary. I got it for the first time on my Porsche and it was about 1,200 USD. I had a flat in the middle of Texas and it paid for the new tire. I had crub rash on two rims (separate incidents) and it replaced (adj for depreciation) the wheels.
Get it. You won't be sorry. Old Slow Joe |

depends on how much they are charging for it?

That's a waste of money in my opinion. Especially in Florida.

i'm in tampa and didnt get it. didnt think it was worth it; like you said most of the issues are from the north east. it's a gamble. and about the curb rash; i dont think they cover that.

I live in FL and yes the roads are in excellent condition however I have the tire insurance on my 535i M Sport mainly because of the road debris. I've picked up various nails and screws in my tires over the past few years and the insurance gives me piece of mind.

Funny but I just got the low pressure warning today (after me original reply). I'll get it patched tomorrow for $20. Still don't think the insurance is worth it. The dealer will tell you that run flats cannot be patched; that's BS. As long as its not near the sidewall and you haven't driven it flat for a while your fine

I don't believe the warranty covers you getting a flat anyway.

in my area (land of snow and pot holes, not NYC but great lakes, yes it's worth it). however i think Gen II of Goodyear LS2 Runflats have helped. Plus I ran at recommend placcard psi.
My winter tires are Dunlop RFT's that I'm running at 36/36....no problems with 1,200 miles on them. however, it is a cheap investment. bargain hard on the insurance and see what happens. i got a decent deal on mine for 3 years, so it's worth a try.

I live in South Florida and bought the insurance. I had 4 tires replaced for free in the first 7 months due to punctures from nails and screws on the roads. Coverage I have is for 5 years and it already paid for itself.

Again I will post a heads up to look in your portfolio in your glove box for the Tire Warranty DVD. You have full replacement coverage on tires for the first 12 months or 2/32 of wear. They don't tell you that and my dealer had never heard of it, I was for first to get a new tire. Check it out, it may help some of you out. 2/32 is probably depending on driving habits 8 or 9000 miles.

What is considered a decent deal on the insurance for 3 years?

I think the cut in for Gen II was after 12/11 iirc. I haven't had any problems with the tires.
Winters are Dunlop Wintersport 3D 245/45R18 100V RFT mounted on BMW Type 281 wheels. As for pricing, I don't want to disclose but I've done several deals with the dealership. I know prices range all over the board. If it sounds decent to you, then go for it.

I paid $1000. It's worth it if you get 2-3 nails over those 3 years...
