I can't get this to work, not even in the smaller screen, and using any map view. I zoom to 100 feet with a Route specified, and that is is. IT stays at 100 feet.



Does the 100 feet change and show Auto, or how do you know it is in Auto Zoom?

I just looked it up in the manual to word my response to you guys and found this, it's called Automatic scaling. It's being mentioned under Voice Commands.




Here is how it worked for me:

Pick a destination and start guidance to it.
Now back on the map.
On the main or split screen, select either the Map facing north and Map facing direction of travel view.
Zoom-in past 100 ft. The next incremental turn to the left past 100 ft. brings up an "A" or "Auto" (can't recall) in lieu of 100 ft for Automatic scaling. So it does show on the screen you are on Auto scaling.
The map then scales to fit/ show the entire itinerary from your current position.

The Auto scale doesn't work with the Perspective view, too processor-intensive I am guessing since the system already lags 2-3-4 seconds when zooming in or out manually. Anyone knows what CPU does the F10 have?


Do I have a different (system no maps) software version from yours? I doubt options make a difference.
How about : Map the main screen, hit Options > Settings. I have all the options ticked except for the bottom one : Gray Map/ Traffic conditions.

I have no setting below 100.

Are you enabling Auto Scaling via Voice command or via the iDrive Controller?

Ok, I tried it again and it works, so long as the Map View is Map Facing North, which basically makes it of no use to me.

Why exactly you can't do this for Map Facing Direction of Travel is beyond me.

I see you got it to work - I use the controller.

I only use Perspective on the main screen and was already using Map facing north on the split screen so this was a nice find.

And it doesn't work on the Map facing direction of travel in the split screen (as opposed to main)? I haven't tested, will check today if I can.

It works only so long as the Map Facing North is selected in either screen. It won't work with any other view, be it the main screen or side screen.

what was the exact procedure you used to upload and get the files onto the USB, drive? i cant seems to get mine to work

Nice summary, but how did you store the files once you download them from the site. did you download then to a folder on your desktop? i have all 23 files downloaded on my desktop but cant seems to move from there. any help would be greatly appreciated.

+ 100000 to Shawn !! Thanks again Shawn for the great find and hook up. I successfully updated mine. Note if you don't get the files right on the USB the car will not auto recognize it. I made the mistake of just coping the entire folder over to the USB. Instead I had to just copy the two files over without putting them within the root folder.

You do not need them in any specific folder, so the Desktop is fine.

What happens when you open BMW_NAV_CIC_HIGH_2013_Premium.part01.rar with WinRAR, and enter the Password?

Do you see the large .img file in the WinRAR window? If so, drag and drop the .img file to your desktop.

Then use 7-Zip to open the large .img file, and drag and drop the single file and folder from the 7-Zip window onto the root of your Fat32 Formatted USB Thumb Drive.

That is it.

Given that you need maybe 40 minutes to update the map via USB, I assume you can be driving somewhere, while the car updates?

Yes, no problem. And you can turn the car off and back on, and it will resume from where it left off on the update.

I'm assuming you can use a larger capacity USB thumb drive if you have one? Does it need to be 2.0 or 3.0 - or is that unimportant?

Yes, larger is fine. USB 2.0 or 3.0 makes no difference.
