I just purchased a brand new 2012 535i left over and I noticed a constant "shimmy" in the steering wheel. Took it back to dealer and they swappped the wheels - found some flat spots on the run flat tires.
I am still experiencing a constant shimmy/shuttering in the steering wheel. Anyone else have a similar experience? Is it the run flat tires? I am on my 4th BMW and I have always loved their cars - I have had a 540, 745, and 750 most recently. |

tire type would help, air pressure? alignment. All things that should be looked at. 2012 sitting for that long def will have flat spots on the tires...heavy car!

Been a fairly common problem on F10's.

What does swap the wheels mean? Did they swap with another F10 that did not shimmy or did they swap your wheels around on your car?
The car should be dead quite in terms of shimmy. It is not an RFT trait, mine did not shimmy at all. Last edited by solstice; 01-11-2013 at 03:50 PM. |

+1. You should not experience a shimmy in the steering wheel, RFT's or not. They know what it is, tell them to fix it. Drive another car with them and you'll notice it doesn't happen. Tell them to make yours like that one, give you a loaner and keep yours until they fix it. Raise hell!

Dealer swapped all 4 wheels and tires from a 2013 535 that matched my car otherwise had to wait a few days to get new tires. I already called the service manager and let him know the car has to go back in to fix the problem...frustrated I didn't notice it when I test drove the car. The tires are Continental Contipro Contact SSR 245/45 R 18.

Does it only happen when using the brakes? Mine had to have the front rotors and pads replaced around 9k miles (started happening around 7500) because the rotors warped.

It happens all the time from about 15 - 20 MPH and higher - the steering wheel just vibrates constantly.
