Coolant Leak, Weeping Hole, Coolant Pipe issue/repair - BMW NA needs to recall/fix

New here to bimmerfest.

I have search the web and read several threads on this and just wanted to make a thread to get word out there and try to rally owners and make BMW NA aware of this major issue and get BMW NA to do a recall/repair.

Different names used for this issue: Weeping hole, coolant leak, coolant pipe

BMW part# for seal and water pipe: 11141439975

I am having the issue for my 05 745li. Im trying to fight it with my warranty company to pay for the repair and i just opened a case with BMW NA.

Not sure has anyone that has open a case with BMW NA hear any updates on this issue?

-by the way, i spoke to the rep at BMW NA and the rep told me if enough owners call up BMW NA it might start a recall/fix.-


so owners please call up BMW NA and open a case and complain to the "resolution reps/supervisors."

just call up and give them your information and open a case and state that you have the issue with the leak / damage water pipe. you can give them the part # also.

Why is your extended warranty company not covering it?

Tell me what to do, who to call where to sign and I'm game.

@csmeance - they are not counting that part as part of the engine or engine cooling in their listed cover parts, even though i have seal and gasket coverage. the seal is damage on the water pipe. i have compass / american guardian.

I am sure we all have the issue to an extent, obviously everyone is running above 105 here.. I am betting 80% of E65's are running above 105c.. so we all have the issue, and we can all call in and complain..

it's def. part of engine cooling at COOLANT FLOWS THOUGH IT and it's WITHIN THE ENGINE! I'd escalate your claim because it's not a hose that's leaking, but a seal that's on a COOLING PORTION of the engine that connects to the motors. It's not a leaking pipe, but a leaking seal on the PIPE!

Some seals and gaskets are not covered on extended warentee, I know that the one I was offer and bought thru carchex was not covered and why I went ahead and dropped them and got my money back.

I strongly agree that this item should be recalled by in my case I replaced the tube and gasket with the more advanced AGA pipe, and I am sure that this repair even I'd recalled will not be covered. My repair cost about 2300.00 and the way BMW has to repair the car will cost way over 8k because they have to remove the heads to install a new pipe into the block.

This is a huge problem with all n62 engines including the x5 and some range rovers that used this BMW design.

@sirstopher and any other owners that did the repair -

even though you did the repair, you can still call to complain, maybe they will reimburse or if it does recall you can swap out the aftermarket. just takes 1 call to ask for a supervisor and start the case/complaint.

Personally I think I would rather have the AGA then the original.. originals are failing at 75k+, that AGA looks pretty nice, I am hoping they have a strong design..

how long does AGA last for? What is the warranty on AGA? is it more than 60k-75k miles?

When / IF mine goes south, I'll be using the aftermarket unit for sure!

I called and spoke with a rep named Kyle, gave him the information and said that this would be a design complaint which would be documented and reviewed internally. Not sure what that means at this point.

All we have to do is call BMW NA and give them what kind of info or will the Representative ask you the info required ?

just give them your vin and stating that you have problems with your water pipe and give BMW NA the part number also

Alright I got it thanks bro ima call them soon

I'm new here, but wanted to say that if you end up having to pay for repairs, that they have some sort of kit now that reduces the repair costs by thousands. I have a mechanic that use to work for BMW for 14 yrs and now has his own shop that did mine for $1200 (including kit). I'll text him and find out what/where the kit can be obtained.
