F10 carnage after two weeks

ok guys, haven't even posted new car pics of my baby yet and just got backed into by a 17 year old girl in a parking lot. Luckily, no wheel or suspension damage, so hopefully just cosmetic.

Looks like I need a new front quarter panel and door panel. Quick question, are these panels the same on M sport as non M sport? I know the bumpers and side skirts are obviously different. I just want to be sure the body shop orders the right ones. I suspect that the front quarter panel and door are not unique to M sport, but just thought I'd check.

thanks.

They should all be the same, except the M5 which has the side gill. Bumpers and side skirts are different though.

Sorry about the crash but the main thing is you are ok.

Whoa, quarter panel is a serious work. If they have to cut it out, it's huge... welding new sheet-metal on a brand-new car does not sound like fun...

Doesn't the front quarter panel just bolt on?

The piece between the front door and the front bumper.

Yes, that just bolts on, and it is usually called the fender.

I guess they will have to weld the door skin on though, right?

It's been awhile since I've needed any auto body work done. But for light door damage, don't they just repair with bondo? And for major damage, replace the whole frame and all?

Sorry for your loss. It would have killed me to have my 2 week old baby involved in an accident like that. Any pics so we can grieve with you?

Awwww, that sucks man! These things are painful but as long as the work is done right, you'll get the car back and it'll be as good as perfect. Maybe use this as an opportunity to get M5 fenders if you so wish?

BTW, I learned something.... didn't know the M Sport and Base versions have different side skirts, nice!

It looks like your car just got slashed by Optimus Prime!

TGray5, you are a great sport and very understanding. Respect.

Btw, aside from the side skirts being different, I was suprised to recently find out the rear bumpers are different on the M Sport and regular. The M Sport reflectors are up high with the bumper shaped slightly different. Go figure. Very subtle!

Yeah, qtr panel used to be the piece behind the rear door (and that's really difficult to fix) . On the front, it's always been called fender as others have clarified.
That's a minor damage then.

Well, you're all wrong....It's not a quarter panel, nor a fender......

Just looked it up and BMW calls it a 'Side Panel' http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=41&fg=10&hl=1

But I still say that front quarter panel is a perfectly fine description. Are you saying a car only has 2 quarter panels? Wouldn't that make it a half panel
What's next, a dollar only has 2 quarters?
A football game only has 2 quarters

It looks like the "side panel" and the front door needs to be replace, the damage is too close to the edge. Are they going to repair the rear door panel?

You must have found the source of the confusion. American football has four quarters, but German footall (fußball) only has two halves. It must have got lost in translation from German to English.

BTW, sorry to hear about your car.

They need to check the rear door to determine what needs to be done...I was able to rub some of the marks off fairly easily so whether there is paint damage underneath remains to be seen...I don't think it pushed in the metal, but they'll have to rub those marks off first to be able to tell the extent of it.

BMW also calls an SUV, an SAV and in their stubbornness they have to put brackets and a full meaning of that acronym each time they print it, as nobody knows what the heck they are talking about. I find that a bit silly. We all know BMWs are good cars, but there is not need to reinvent the word. X5 is just a helluva SUV
